I can’t name just one book that has changed my life because so many books have influenced my growth on this journey. But I can say that certain concepts among many books I’ve read have definitely impacted my life, and those would be the concepts of gratitude and controlling one’s thoughts.
I was a master worrier in my younger years and I learned from the best – my mom, bless her. I have many years of anguish to look back on, thanks to this. I automatically assumed the worst in every situation, even when there was a microscopic chance things would go wrong, or were wrong. If there was a chance for disaster, that’s where my mind went, and that was my reality. How I wish I could get back all the sleep I lost.
About 25 years ago I discovered books by Jose Silva, Wayne Dyer, Esther and Jerry Hicks and the like. I finally accepted that worrying is basically betting against yourself. If you’ve done all you can do about a situation, let it go and focus on the many positives in your life. Time will pass anyway and we can spend it being angry, resentful and bitter or grateful for all the positives. Life is so short. Switch your focus and spend it as happy as you can.
So that’s my story and my post for Day 10. As an avid booknerd, I look forward to visiting your posts to see which books have changed your life.
In the autumn my husband recommended me to check out David Goggins. I had already started switching my mindset and collect some oomph to ramp up my exercise and to challenge myself (after my knee injury) but when I read Goggins’ book “Can’t hurt me” it became a workbook of strategies and mindset inspiration for how to stick to what you need to do to reach your goals and become who you want to be. Now, what he’s done is quite extreme, but his mindset is still relevant for me as inspiration. I’ve bought is second book now.
