My preferred mode of travel? Oh boy. DRIVING. Hands down.

Yes, flying is faster and safer. I just prefer to be in my own quiet space and not strapped into a human petri dish with a darling toddler kicking the back of my seat for the next two hours. And I’ve seen, from my window seat, how they treat your luggage as it’s being loaded on to the plane. Note: Don’t EVER pack anything fragile in your checked bags. Or valuable for that matter, as I’ve also been lucky enough to experience lost luggage.

Plus, I’m just a road trip kind of person. Even the words “road trip” strike excitement in my heart. Especially if there is time to stop along the way and explore. Or if I need to stop and stretch, I can. I have so many photos I’ve taken of things and scenery that just captures my attention. And lots of times, down the road, it fits perfectly with a story.

Our first long distance trip with our travel trailer will be in May when we visit Florida and I’m really looking forward to that excursion. And, we’ve also decided to start camping overnight on our trips out to South Dakota, which I’m very happy about. We’ve had some rotten luck with hotels in the last few years, which just confirms my preference to stay in our own space.

I don’t refuse to fly or stay in a hotel – if God forbid there was an emergency and time was of the essence, I’d get on a plane in a minute. I’ve just really grown to value my own space, peace, quiet and cleanliness.

    1. I thought about the train, actually. We have an Amtrak line not far from our house and can hear the whistle quite often at road crossings. I’d want a private car though.. LOL
