Day 6 of Bloganuary! A smile spread across my face when I saw this prompt. One, because I’m overjoyed that I’m still in this challenge and have been able to respond to these prompts. So many times I search for ideas when I stare at a blank screen and I find prompts such as, “Share your most embarrassing moment” or “What keeps you awake at night?” Lord. Why would I want to relive that or share something like that publicly?
But writing! Oh, writing, my love.
This blog will be 12 years old this summer, believe it or not. It was born of my daydreaming of being a travel writer. Yeah, dream job for sure. Instead, hubs and I would go out on day trips on our motorcycles to new places, my camera and notebook in my backpack. Sometimes we’d just pick a direction and see what we found. Then we’d come home as the sun set, tired and sunburned, and I’d happily tap away at my keyboard, stringing together our adventure. It was my small time version of being a travel writer.
That’s the fun part of writing, to me. Putting together the story, especially if something extraordinary had happened. Writing, editing, filling in the detail, sharing the pictures. Telling the story, capturing a moment in time.
My blog has also morphed into different types of “series” posts (see my About Me page) across many different categories (see the Categories drop-down menu on the right). I also write because the more you write the better you get. I want to work on my craft. Some people are “makers”. My creativity is telling a story through words and photos. It’s truly my happy place.
Someday, in the final inning of our lives, I’ll have this blog and we’ll get to relive our days all over again. Who knows, maybe the family I leave behind will want to save it.
This is why I write.
This is beautful
