Keeping this a secret has been tough!! We bought a 2003 Coachmen Somerset Dreamcatcher, a 36 foot fifth wheel, back in February, and decided to keep it a secret until Memorial Weekend, our first group camping trip of the year. It’s been so difficult not sharing our new purchase and all the excitement that comes with it!
I found it in December on RV Trader and watched it, daily, to see how long it would remain on the market. The weekend of February 6th we decided to go look at it, down in West Alexandria, Ohio, (west of Dayton) and if nothing major was wrong with it, we’d put a deposit down. The stars were in alignment. We got the ball rolling and on March 12th, we brought Somer home. (Vote for Somer! – Napoleon Dynamite, yes, we’re crazy!)
So the unveiling turned out great. We backed in to our campsite, some thought, “Who are these people and what are they doing on their site??” Another asked if we put Miracle Gro on our old camper. Haha.. Only my sister and brother-in-law knew about it. People slowly wandered over to get a look at her, and once we were all set up, we all piled in for the grand opening and happy hour began.
What was even more awesome is that friends of ours we were to camp with several weekends ago (when the transmission died and we were stranded on M-14, that’s another story), also arrived with a BEAUTIFUL new fifth wheel toy hauler! Had we made the trip that weekend, we’d have both arrived with new rigs to surprise each other. Everyone had already seen their new trailer since we arrived last, and no one said anything about it until we noticed it later around the campfire. It was so kind of everyone to allow us our moment of glory!
Our friends brought us a camper warming gift – happy camper cocktail napkins! I had them all sign and date one, which I’ll frame and hang up.
This was a dream come true. When I saw the layout of this trailer, I was in love and had it sold and we missed out, I’d have had a hard time settling for anything else. Someone had said that it was meant to be and was waiting for us. I am grateful beyond words and looking forward to so many fun weekends, rain or shine.
We had a fabulous time and the weather Sunday and Monday was just gorgeous. There is more to come, this weekend’s cooking adventure was bannock bread, baked over the fire in a cast iron skillet!
Thanks for reading and sharing in the big announcement!
Congratulations on the Coachman Kathleen. I’ve always had a soft spot for that brand. My Uncle had a dealership in Ausable Chasm NY. My Dad and he would drive to Elkhart in convoy so they could each haul the (multiple) campers back to his dealership. We had a 12 foot truck camper (my Dad thought that would be easier for me to drive.) Good times. Hope you have as many good times in yours … and just think you’ll be dry when it rains. From my little tent I’m always envious of the ‘glampers’ during a storm.

Thank you! What a great memory.. 🙂 Yes, it sure was comfy with the AC on during our rather humid weekend. We still take a tent on bike trips though, it keeps us appreciative!
Have fun with your RV we spent 15 years traveling in a Motor home. We spent the winters in Arizona and the summere in Idaho.our cat traveled with us for the first 6 years of his life.

Betty, that is a DREAM! I’m sure full time RV living has it’s up and downs, but WOW! Travel just calls to my soul like nothing else does. The perfect opportunity for my other two loves, blogging and photography. Especially winters in Arizona! Winter in Michigan is the worst.
