This post is actually a spin off of several stories that emerged Labor Day weekend.  The issue is sitting my butt down to bring them to life!  I love blogging but darn, is it time consuming! Here’s the first installment, not in any order.

I’ll first start off by saying I’ve never heard the song. Ever. I remember hearing about it, it was big at the time and for some reason I recall it was really kind of a dumb song that you can’t get out of your head. I dunno. At any rate, I rarely listen to the radio so I managed to avoid it.

We needed party lights for the new trailer. We kept our old lights with the old trailer and decided to get something new for our next chapter of camping.  I found some at Camping World but when I got them back to the campsite, decided not to keep them. The cups were small and too close together. Plus, I bought two sets and found out I needed three for the length of the awning.  At $9 each, I realized, “These are friggin plastic cups!  I can make them with Christmas lights that I already have!”

So when we were getting ready to leave for our Labor Day excursion, I dug my Christmas lights out of the attic and brought them with, along with a new package of red Solo cups. Except they’re not Solo, they’re Boulder. Anyway.

On Saturday, Craft Hour began as friends and neighbors wandered over wondering what the hell I was doing. The colored plastic caps on my lights were removable, so I took them off a strand.

Then with a knife I cut an X into the bottom of each cup.

The light pops easily through the slits.

Voila! I spaced them out further like I preferred, leaving a light in between each cup.

Party time!

I’m sure this has been done a zillion times before, so I’m not claiming it as my original idea. I just figured I could recreate them the way I wanted, and much cheaper. I’m happy with how they turned out.  They’ll store easily too, just remove the cups and stack them together until the next outing.

I may also try orange and purple for Halloween, and of course, if you’re into football camping weekends, use your team colors!
