Welcome to the Rewind! It’s Christmas vacation – my favorite song and holiday movie. I love this version by Mavis Staples, I wish I could find the audio version of it. It’s also my cell phone ring tone. 🙂 I’ve been off work since Friday and I have three more glorious days to sleep in. Merry Christmas to me!
I also jumped on the bandwagon with all the cool WordPress kids and made it snow on my site! I like this plugin, WP Super Snow.
Thursday I made out like a bandit at our White Elephant gift exchange at work – I love this scarf! I had it stolen, then given back to me. Hahaha.
We celebrated the winter solstice on Thursday with a campfire and a long talk about what we want to let go, and what we want to intend in 2018. More to come on that later.
Bill’s birthday gift finally arrived – a mechanic’s jacket from S&S!
I did get all my shopping done early, and shipped. Friday I paid a visit to the Delray Bakery for a fresh loaf of Hungarian Rye, for my Dad. He’s 100% Hungarian and my folks met in Delray, a neighborhood in Detroit, many, many moons ago. In fact, my mom had told me she remembered walking to the Delray Bakery with my grandmother for fresh bread. The bakery moved to Taylor in 1980, recently discovered by me when I found a loaf of Hungarian Rye at the local grocery store. I spoke with the owners a bit – they were tickled to hear how much my Dad loved their rye and told me that so many of their customers have told them stories of their parents and grandparents frequenting their bakery in Detroit, back in the day.
I then met up with a friend for lunch who gifted me this amazing yule log cake! Kathi is an AMAZING baker. I can’t wait to try this! Vanilla cake with raspberry mousse filling!
Today the baking commenced! I didn’t want to bake everything too early as it’s all being given away and I wanted everything to be fresh. On the agenda today were M&M Pretzel Hugs and Blizzard cookies.
Tomorrow calls for Christmas Brookies – chocolate chip cookie on the bottom, winter oreo in the middle and brownie on top! Perfect day to stay in and bake and watch the 3″ of snow fall.
GRATITUDE
It’s shaping up to be a fabulous Christmas and I’m thankful to spend it with family and friends. I’ve been able to meet up with several dear friends and have plans for after Christmas as well. I feel for those with family issues who really have a tough time this season and hope that the holiday brings some good times to brighten their days.
Have a very Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and if you don’t, have a wonderful holiday however you choose to spend it.
