Welcome back to the Rewind and thank you for joining me as I reminisce over the last week. Many of you know that I was able to escape this cold, gray bucket of suck we call Michigan and spend it celebrating my dad’s 91st birthday in Florida. I got lucky and it warmed up to the 70s while I was there, and we got to enjoy several days in the 80s.
During last week’s Rewind, I had a layover at Chicago Midway. Upon boarding, I got to meet Bogey, a 9 year old Pomeranian who was my seat mate from Chicago to Orlando. I sent his pic to Bill, who asked if Kody Van Halen was on my flight. I responded that he’d likely be in first class if it were him. Haha.
What a darling. He yiped a bit from his carrier under the seat until we got in the air, then he snuggled in with his folks under a blanket in their lap and didn’t make another sound. Sweet little furball.
Tuesday my sister and I took off on a day trip to the Clearwater area. On 75, we saw a billboard for the Richloam General Store. (Screeeeeeech! Taking the next exit..) How cool! An old-fashioned general store off the beaten path..
I bought some peppered bacon for Bill, some caramel coconut candy and some awesome Strawberry dressing/marinade.
Upon reaching Clearwater, we dipped our toes in the Gulf of Mexico (freezing!) and had lunch at the Palm Pavilion then walked along the shore for a bit.
Later we met up with some snowbird friends of mine at the Sponge Docks! Wish we had more time to walk around and that I’d gotten more pics.
Back at my dad’s I made golabki for the first time as that was his request for his birthday dinner. AKA: gaWOOMki, AKA: stuffed cabbage. I actually did it! Dad was in heaven.
It was a great week. We pretty much just hung out, talking, catching up, and I helped out where I could.
This last photo is from the tram on our way to the gates at the Orlando airport. I will miss those palm trees.
But!
GRATITUDE
Spending the week with my dad and seeing how well he is still doing for his age. I pray that continues as long as God will allow. The laughs we shared. Making him his favorite birthday dinner. Cake, ice cream, gifts. Non-stop phone calls from our family and friends, wishing him a happy birthday. And the photos to capture it all.
