How was your week?  I’m sitting here by the Christmas tree while Bill is doing a darn good rendition of Black Magic Woman on the guitar. Which reminds me, I need to add some Santana to my Napster playlist. Had fun going through my prehistoric iPod and adding all the long lost music to my Napster account. And, surprisingly, my old cell-phone-now-mp3-player held all the music I had downloaded. I’ll likely need a microSD card to keep going though.

GRATEFUL
I’m SO happy to learn that my washer fluid pump was not in fact broken, but frozen. I’m so glad to not have that expense/headache this time of year.  Once it thawed a bit it started working and I tried to run out all the crap fluid that I’m pretty sure the last oil change place put in.  Grrrr.

One of  my weeks main event included a Polish Immersion event that was put on by the Diversity & Inclusion committee at work. I’m 50% Polish and was able to attend just the beginning and end of the presentation due to a conference call that I had right smack in the middle. Na zdrowie (nahz DROVE yeh) means “to your health” or “God Bless You”.  So you may hear it before a toast (or perhaps Sto Lat) or after someone sneezes. I found that a co-worker of mine is 100% Polish so we got to talking about more non-work related stuff than ever!

It was pretty cool. We Skyped with Piotr, from Poland, ate pierogi, kielbasa, potato pancakes, and had accordion music. Just wish I could have told my mom about it. 🙁  She’d have really gotten a kick.

Tomorrow is our Christmas cookie exchange at work, and my Grinch cookies were relatively successful on the second attempt. I ending up sprinkling them with powdered sugar after they cooled. The recipe said to form balls, roll them in a powdered sugar and cornstarch mixture and bake.  And guess what? The sugar MELTS AND COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS!  Ugh. They still turned out OK. I’m glad I had a shaker to use with the powdered sugar and also VERY GRATEFUL for finding the candy hearts at Party City. I was in no way going to attempt to make them with icing!  Hahaha.

In the coming weeks, more treats will come together as I assemble them as gifts. It’s been fun, but I’m really missing my dining room table, clear except for a candle centerpiece. I think this year I’ll be successful in getting it all done early, and be able to relax through the weekend prior to Christmas. Now I just need to find a good Polish vodka for the holidays…

Na zdrowie!

  1. The cookies look good, though! And that’s neat about the history you’re learning/using.

    Happy week!
