Spinning your wheels is fun, isn’t it? I do it every weekend. I get up, with the best of intentions and before I know it the sun is setting and I feel as if I got nothing done. Here are some thoughts I had on tackling the two days off most of us get.
1. Make a plan Friday (or Thursday) night. List everything you want to get done over the weekend. Be thorough, but realistic. Once complete, tag what you plan to do Saturday, then Sunday. (Prioritize your list with numbers, if you’re really a geek!)
2. Get up relatively early. We all like to sleep in on the weekends, but if you want the satisfaction of a productive day, set your alarm somewhere between your workweek waking time and your weekend, snooze until noon time.
3. Use a timer while you work. If you’re dreading a long task, use a timer, to break up the monotony. After 30 minutes, for example, switch to another task.
4. Bargain with yourself. Do something fun, go somewhere, buy something, as long as you get X amount of things done off your list.
5. Schedule time for fun throughout the day. Check your social networks, watch TV, pick up that magazine you’ve been meaning to read, take a nap or meditate. (Use the timer!) All work and no play will drive you insane.
6. Realize that you’ll never really get it all done. As fast as you can check things off your list, new ones will appear. Always. For the rest of your life. Chasing that Utopian state of “all caught up and nothing to worry about” won’t ever be reached, unless you become a drifter.
I hope this helps. I feel better just for posting this! Do you have anything to add? Would love to hear your comments, and other suggestions below.
These are some great tips Kathleen. I can totally relate and I’m glad you posted this. I usually try and do number one and really really struggle with doing number two!
Thank you! 🙂 I’m not a morning person either!
