Back in April, I met up with a dear friend at one of my favorite haunts when I used to work in Novi, an awesome Mexican restaurant named El Patio. It’s tucked away in a strip mall and serves up some amazing authentic Mexican food. When my friend mentioned she’d be in the area, I suggested that location for Taco Tuesday, and could almost begin to taste a salty margarita glass. It also brought to mind a memory…
Going back a few years, I worked just a few miles down the road and co-workers and I would frequent El Patio on a semi-regular basis. We went to lunch on a particular Friday and upon leaving, I bought a “to go” pint container of their famous salsa to take camping that weekend. Except for when I left work that day, I forgot about it and left the salsa in the refrigerator at work.
I realized this once we arrived at the campsite and was pretty bummed. I had chips, margarita mix, salt, all I needed was the darn salsa. And this stuff is GOOD. Hands down, the best restaurant salsa I’ve ever had, IMHO. Just the right consistency, plenty of heat and cilantro.
I was so bummed I forgot it, that I made the decision to go get it, totally miscalculating the distance from our campground to my work. I’m not quite sure how I did this, but I realized as I got closer to my office that it was 45 miles away, not the 15 or so I had estimated (I’m directionally challenged).
Yep. 90 miles round trip to be able to enjoy my beloved salsa at the campsite. And you can believe I did. My family we were camping with thought I was nuts but I didn’t care. I didn’t share any of it with the nay sayers.. 😉 Hahaha. Well, I probably did, I can’t remember.
So, as my friend and I were leaving the restaurant, I made sure to get a pint of my beloved 90 Mile Salsa.
Have you ever gone a ridiculous distance for something you had to have?
Yes it was well worth the trip & oh so yummy!
