A Hell of a Band

“Everybody’s comin’, leave your body at the door…leave your body and soul at the door..”

Dead Man’s Party, my favorite Halloween song by Oingo Boingo pops into my head as my house is transformed with pumpkins, skeletons and light, and my Dead Rock Band emerges from storage.

I found this foursome a while back, in a mail-order catalog.  I had to have them. I wish I knew who the original artist was, I’d credit the hell out of them! They did a great job. The band members are creepily accurate, holes in both their clothing and skin, exposing bones, joints, ribs. Now they grace my fireplace mantel every October in between two tealight holders that conveniently resemble amplifiers.

What I love about them the most is that they remind me of a wonderfully creepy little short story by Stephen King, called You Know They Got a Hell of a Band, from Nightmares & Dreamscapes. A couple on a road trip become lost and stumble upon an eerily perfect little town called Rock and Roll Heaven, whose inhabitants too closely resemble dead musicians.
