crocus

Although the temps really hit the basement last night and this morning was frigid, today is the Spring equinox, officially shutting (slamming) the door on winter. Temps will be in the 40s this week with one bonus day of 60 degrees.  And a thunderstorm.. Heh..

My crocuses (or croci) pictured above lasted two days looking this nice. I wish they were longer lived. The tulips and daffodils have sprouted though, and soon the wildflower security team will return outside to protect the tulips from neighborhood rabbits.

On the last mild day we had, I did some raking in the flower beds and noticed brand new shoots from my new hostas poking through the cypress mulch.  These were given to me by a co-worker last fall, and will always bring a smile whenever I see them. At work one day, she offered me the plants and I asked what they looked like, knowing there are about a zillion different kinds of hostas. She texted her husband, asking him to send a picture of them. Of course, auto correct changed “hostas” to “hostages”. He responded, “Do you want me to untie them first and remove the blindfolds?” We laughed for hours.

So much to do and I can’t wait to get started! I long to uncover the patio furniture and enjoy the mornings with the chirping birds.  Campfires after a long day working out in the sunshine or out on a road trip. The sound of crickets and the wind rustling through the trees in the moonlight.

And of course, camping.   OMG

I received a text from my sister Friday night informing me that there were about 12 campers out at Bishop Lake, one our favorite haunts, with fires going.  Our first trip out is near the end of April and this news only made me more antsy! I wondered if these folks had already de-winterized or if they were just diehards, using the bath houses that are open year round.

Spring is officially here.  What are you most looking forward to?
