At work we celebrate Wacky Holidays – fun, off the wall reasons to celebrate, keeping things fun as we work towards deadlines and juggle multiple projects.
Today, casual Friday, was the day to come to work in costume in celebration of Halloween. I didn’t go all out with any particular costume, but I did find my horns and set of 4 foot long black vinyl wings, which resulted in rather interesting looks on the elevator ride up to my floor. I called it “Festive”.
Then folks started to trickle in, sans costume. 10am rolls around and sure enough, the only other person in costume is my team leader, and I wondered if she and I were the only ones to get the memo!
Ah, well.. I’ve known a lot of “this is my costume” people over the years, and many people today just had too much to do or forgot. I thought about all the years I’d been “festive” on Halloween at work only to find that not many (any) of my co-workers got into the spirit. Boo humbug!
But, I stuck with it. A dear friend commented on my status update, “You rock them wings and horns with pride, Chicklett!” She was right. Just because everyone doesn’t join in shouldn’t stop your fun. The horns and wings stayed on all day, gathering fun comments. “Did you know there’s something protruding from your head?…” “Is this the real you? Gotta watch out for those quiet ones…” Another co-worker stopped by my cube and said, “You poor thing! That’s what happens when you work here, you start to grow appendages!” Haha.. It was a fun day.
So from what I hear, Halloween (Thursday) is when the work parties are held and folks get into the spirit. It should be interesting!
