As I was getting ready to leave work for the day, I walked past the windows and saw that the grayish afternoon had become a white mist. From the 12th floor, the visibility was minimal and the city skyline had become blanketed with what looked just wet, cold and nasty.
I thought it was rain until I walked out the revolving doors on the ground floor and it literally hit me in the face. Our first snow of the season. No surprise, I knew the forecast called for snow this week. It’s just something you are never ready for, not me, at least.
The afternoon commute was slow, as it normally is, but when the roads are slick, it’s the way I prefer it. Break out the audiobooks! We’re going to be here a while.
I arrived home after what felt like an eternity, and the snow-crusted leaves crunched under my feet as I made my way into my house. This year we finally made the decision to hire landscapers for fall cleanup, another blessing I’ve added to my gratitude list, along with my garage, knowing my car will be snow and ice free in the morning.
The white stuff is still out there as I type this, sticking, and I wonder if we’ll still have any accumulation by morning. I really do hope it’s a snowy winter, it at least provides something to do: snowmobiling, sledding, building snowmen, skiing, snowboarding, fun things to do to pass the winter months. Winter with no snow is just cold and dead. A snow-covered landscape is at least more scenic. I wonder what Jack Frost will have in store for the morning commute?
