Halloween is near, and I’ve been in all my glory of the events of my most beloved season. This year we made it back to Greenfield Village for Hallowe’en Nights. My failing hip did not allow me to go last year, but now that I’m back to normal, I made sure to snag tickets before it sold out.

We prayed for no rain, and the evening was perfect, not too cold, but breezy. Through the gates with our treat bags (Yes! Adults get to trick or treat at this event! They insist that everyone gets a treat bag.. How cool is that?) we followed the crowd through the village, glowing pumpkins lining our path. A puddle caught the reflection of one..

These scarecrows were great. You didn’t know there were people inside until the last, jump-out-of-your-skin second!

I got a close up of the Grim Reaper, though we didn’t get to see the sparks fly as he sharpened his scythe. A bonfire burned in the background, as we were all focused on Grim, workers brought more pallets to throw onto the fire. Someone in the crowd said, “The fence is moving! Oh, wait, never mind.. LOL”

Even Thomas Edison was decked out for the occasion, though I can’t imagine what he was thinking. Probably something along the lines of “Get this damn hat off me!”

We crossed a covered, fog-filled bridge that was dancing with lights, and I couldn’t help but to snap a pic of this adorable little chicken.

Some other pics from the evening..

There were several references to the Wizard of Oz throughout the village, but my favorite was the haunted forest!

Blurry, but I caught a flying monkey mid-strike!

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

Having just listened to the audiobook, The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury, the pumpkin tree now has even more meaning!

We were at the end, but just in time for the story of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Our storyteller did a fabulous job taking us through this classic tale.

As we made our way out, I was fortunate enough to get photos of the headless horseman and Ichabod Crane.

It was just starting to sprinkle, and the wind was picking up. I longed for the warmth of our car, but hated to leave this Halloween Heaven on this perfect October night.

    1. Our session was 8pm to 10pm, I think it pretty much runs the loop of Greenfield Village. You could probably get through it in under an hour if you didn’t take your time..

  1. We have been to Greenfield Village a few time but never for Halloween. This looks so cool – your pictures are great! Thanks for sharing.

  2. That is scary!!! I bet it was a lot of fun! I watch that series Ghost Adventures sometimes, it freaks me out every time. Thanks for sharing this cool experience.
