So today was all planned out and I couldn’t wait – road trip up north for the A-1 Snowmobile Swap and Show, then Hallowe’en at Greenfield Village Saturday night. I’d heard their Halloween event was still going on this weekend, and I’d still have some photo opportunities to work with for next season.
Then the following happened:
1) Husband came down with a terrible cold on Friday – still not feeling great today.
2) Woke up to rain (and rain in New Lothrop, the location of the outdoor swap and show). Not walking a sick hubby around in the rain.
3) Called Greenfield Village, the Halloween event ended Sunday.
Well, that takes care of that! I spent the morning working on my website and reading up on other blogs, keeping my focus on what I love doing and not this dreary day, especially since my plans had completely fallen apart.
Over breakfast, we talked about the new TV and stand we’ve been wanting, we had priced them out and even pretty much decided on what we were going to go with. The question was, when would we pull the trigger? Hubster and I are the complete opposite of frivolous, and especially since our current (and painfully small) TV works, it was not an easy decision. Making a major purchase is never an easy choice, unless you are the type to completely throw caution to the wind – NOT us at all! LOL
So the more we talked about it, the closer I was to going out and buying it. I measured the width of the corner where our current TV is, planned on what to do with the old stuff, the wheels were in motion.
Then, because I was horrible at making decisions, I decided, if Family Video (yes, we neanderthals do not have On Demand) has The Conjuring, I’d pull the trigger and go buy the TV. One quick visit to familyvideo.com and it was done. I would soon be a proud new owner!
But, I wasn’t done! If I was going to shell out that kind of money, I was going to make myself work for it, dammit! Everything has to be justified. So I made a deal – everything I needed to get done this weekend, cleaning, website work, blogging, social media commitments, volunteer work I had to do – needed to be done before this TV made its way into the house. Not put off until Sunday or evenings next week.
So I’ve got some work to do! How do you make these kinds of decisions, when it’s a major purchase but not a necessity?
