Remember coming home from school and finishing all your homework on Friday afternoon?
LOL
All kidding aside, procrastination is really something I must address. The joy, if you can call it that, of putting something off that you don’t want to do at the moment, only compounds into stress and panic when it HAS to be done and you’re down to the wire. It’s an awful feeling. And like many, I’ve done this All. My. Life. Thousands of books have been written on the topic, and although it’s not my intent here to add to what’s been said a million times on ways to overcome procrastination, I’m writing this more to define exactly why I do it. I want to get clear on the cause and shift focus onto the changes I want to make, personally and professionally. I recently found an article on procrastination which I promptly bookmarked to read later. No joke.
If I just liked better the feeling of getting it done, off my plate, off my mind, no nagging task to worry about. Finishing a task you’ve been dreading is sooooo nice! Why not go after that feeling more often and tackle the obstacles to get it over with and get to the good part. Avoiding it just prolongs the unpleasantness, because it weighs on your mind and you still have to do it anyway. So just do it, and bask in the “Thank God that’s over withness”. Easier said than done, but it’s a goal for 2016. I just noticed the irony in that statement.
I’m working on it.
Love all your irony! The title, the last couple sentences… awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, thanks.. 🙂 I do intend to make it a 2016 goal, but I plan to start now.. Thanks for reading!
