One of my earliest Halloween memories is roasting pumpkin seeds with my older sister. I was four, she was 18. I think I dressed up as an elf that year, and I remember not liking being an elf because I wasn’t scary, and I thought that because I wasn’t scary, I was the one who was supposed to be the scaree, not one of the scarers. ?? I dunno, I was four.
Today, another of my favorite Halloween traditions beside carving pumpkins and roasting the seeds is to make shrunken apple heads. Here is one of several links you can find out there to make them. http://bit.ly/ba3HB5
Every year on October 1st, I pull out the decorations, pop in my Elvira cd and listen to Monster Mash, while I decorate my house and yard. It’s also a reminder to get a head start on the shrunken apple heads, as if you start now, they will be more than ready in the next 30 days, just in time for Halloween night. I have a creepy looking vase that I use and gather branches from my yard to impale the heads on, making a sinister looking bouquet of apple heads to place in my hallway.
Love this time of year!
