These have not happened very often in my career, but today was an exception. Nicknamed “Super Snow Sunday”, 16.7″ inches of snow fell in 24 hours in Metro Detroit and the results did not equal a fun commute this morning. With the overnight low being 0 degrees and the high for today 18, I knew the roads would be a skating rink. Luckily, my boss agreed to me staying the hell home and making up the hours this week. Yesterday, I did get out for a bit (in my yard) and got some winter shots. I searched back through my portfolio and found some winter scenes I’d taken in years past.
As much as I hate winter, I do enjoy taking winter photos. I like the challenge of getting the right exposure/white balance with a gray card. It takes some adjusting, but when you get it right, the snow is dazzling.
It actually hasn’t been a very snowy winter and our snowmobiles still sit, unstickered, on the trailer. It would be nice to get out on them this year. I hope that any further winter storms arrive on a Friday night, we have all day Saturday and Sunday to clear, and dry roads Monday morning. Is that too much to ask?
It will be a long week, but the roads look clear, and as long as nothing else falls from the sky, we should be in good shape.
I am still so grateful I was able to dodge this morning’s bullet, and I hope we’re on winter’s home stretch.
6 more weeks to go!
Snow, snow, glorious snow … please make it go away!

I am so ready for spring. My 45 minute commute last night was 2 hours. #ihatewinter
