I’ve learned that happiness is not just the obtaining of a goal or dream, but the deliciousness of the anticipation.
Really, what would it be like if you truly had everything you ever wanted, achieved everything you could dream of, you had nothing left to desire. Okay, yes, it would be AWESOME. But, wouldn’t you get the feeling like you’re at the end of your road? Like there is nothing left? I think I would. And it feels kind of scary. But I guess then, you’d just dream a new dream. If you want. Or just bask in what you’ve achieved.
This has made me realize just how much joy there is in hope. Like looking forward to a dream vacation. The daydreaming is almost as fun! The excitement, the I. CANNOT. WAIT. Are you as happy after with the memories of the trip as you were looking forward to it? For me, the sadness in going back to reality almost overshadows it a bit. Looking forward to it was almost better!
It’s similar to finding the good in all things, having a gratitude mindset. What’s good in my life that I can look forward to?
Right now it’s:
- Plans to go walking tomorrow and have lunch with a dear friend I haven’t seen years.
- Catching up with my Dad over the phone – 88 and still going strong! So blessed.
- Shopping for new flooring for the kitchen.
- My fave Sunday night shows – Walking Dead and Blood & Oil.
Those are just a few. How about you? Do you make it a point to look for things to look forward to?
I am going to a lunch meeting for continuing education credit with nurse friends today and then to a nail stickers lady-wine-thing party after. I am looking forward to see old friends and meet new ones.
I agree on you on the ones you posted except for the Walking Dead. My boyfriend loves it but I cannot stand it. Too scary.
