Wednesday, June 21st was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, the first day of summer.  A while back I found an article about solstice bonfires (when I find it I’ll link it here) that I found intriguing. To celebrate the changing of the season, you write your intentions along with the things in your life you wish to let go. Toss the paper into your bonfire and the smoke carries your message up to the Great Spirit.

So I did. I have my doubts that the Great Spirit is kicking back right now reading my note, but there is something to be said for writing things out when searching for clarity. Especially when your really feeling torn or confused about something. Writing it gets it out on paper and out of your head so you don’t feel you have to juggle all the details in your mind. It’s worked for me.

We enjoyed the summer day, cooked pizza hobo pies over the fire and then celebrated the solstice and enjoyed the glow of our fire as we often do. I even stopped for Summer Shandy.

On the downside, the days will start getting shorter now. I’d like to do this again on the winter solstice, December 21st. I’ve never had a campfire in the snow.

Did you get out and celebrate the solstice?  How?
