Last night the zone valves on our boiler finally gave up the ghost. They were acting up lately, requiring “tricking” the thermostat to get them to open up once the thermostat fell several degrees below our normal setting. They were also leaking. After some inspection, Bill informed me the leak had gotten so bad we needed to turn them off until they could be replaced, meaning no hot water going through the pipes to heat the house. Today I woke to him putting another blanket on me and remembered. Ugh. No heat.
Super. It’s currently 30 degrees out right now, and overnight it fell to 61 in our living room. So, I set up camp in my upstairs office with a space heater, remembering a time when I ran my space heater daily at my last job. That office was FROZEN in the winter. We all ran space heaters in our individual offices (often having to reset the breaker!). But it warmed our offices quickly when we kept the door closed, and I figured today I’d have that same adventure.
I have plenty to do in my makeshift cocoon – there is always something in here that needs straightening or purging. I have my beloved bookshelf, my photo studio, my resistance band for PT exercises. The only problem is having to go down into the frozen tundra for more coffee. Unless I bring the Keurig upstairs.
But in the scheme of things, we’re all good – the new valves have been ordered and are on the way. Tonight we can run the fireplace and by the weekend we should be back to normal. Just a minor inconvenience.
Hope it’s warm where you are!
