Good Morning and thank you for stopping by the campsite! Today is my birthday and the first camping trip of the season. We’re here again at a favorite park of mine, Sterling SP in Monroe, right on Lake Erie.

The weather is always hit or miss in late April, and this year we had SNOW in the forecast! Luckily though, all we got was rain last night. We are on site 88, across from the lake, and Bill and I both agree that it’s probably our new favorite site! I’m loving this view and it was so nice to wake up to the sound of waves.

It’s again too cold to kayak (I always hope for a freak warm day on this first trip out) so I hope I can book this site again this summer. There are also lots of lagoons and canals to explore.

Yesterday before the rain came we walked along the shoreline and I found a decent amount of beach glass.

I’m thinking this will be the start of a new tradition on my birthday camping weekend! I remember finding lots of blue beach glass on the Lake Huron shoreline at my aunt’s house, growing up.  I wish I’d kept it.

I’m really enjoying so far Let It Burn, by Steve Hamilton, which I thought was fitting around the campfire. 😊

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I have one more class to finish my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training! I was elated to learn that I got 100% on my last graded assignment. Then I have the final exam but the really tough part will be applying this all to my work project. Wish me luck!

I am also super excited to have booked my first ghost hunt!  On May 18th, we will be exploring a few old buildings on Grosse Ile, an island on the Detroit River. I’m thinking I can probably use my phone to record EVPs?

How about a warm up and a walk on the beach? As usual, the last day of camp is the nicest.

How was your week? Join us at Eclectic Alli’s Weekend Coffee Share and tell us about it!

  1. umm – waking up to waves was also one of my favorite camping benefits, that along with river sounds all day and all night long. Here in California, we have easy access to the Pacific ocean and there used to be a couple of beaches that were well known for drift-glass, taken of course from the idea of drift wood. We used to hunt for it as kids and all these years later both consistent hunting & strong discouragements from dropping bottles have pretty much purged the beach of drift glass. Great memories. Thanks for the visit.

  2. Oh, I love beach glass–the last time we were in England, we spent a lot of time at the beach and I brought home quite a bit which I keep in a vase! My week was great–I moved home and today was the first day of my new commute:-)

  3. Happy Happy Birthday!! What a beautiful camping spot 🙂 I can’t think of a better way to spend a birthday than going camping. Glorious 🙂 I used to collect beach glass, it is so beautiful. How do you display yours? I ended up gluing mine to a mirror, like making a frame to the mirror. This was years ago, but it was a cherished piece for a long time. Have a marvelous new week!
