We’re now well into Fall, and now the days really begin to get shorter with DST ending yesterday. The time is upon us when I just want to hibernate until spring. One our our beloved activities, snowmobiling, gets us through. But, unfortunately, this year we will likely be without our sleds. Our ONE TIME we got to go last year, we both had mechanical trouble and it looks like the time has come to upgrade. Who knows if we will find newer ones this season, so we may be taking a break this year. As a back up, I feel the need to arm myself with things to do over the winter. How can I make the suckiest time of year go quickly? That’s what was nice about snowmobiling, you had something to look forward to and got to count down the weekends until the trails close March 30th. April came very early when you were trying to fit in one more trip.
So..
The bright side of winter, to me, is I find it easier to get back in shape, as odd as that may seem. I find it way easier to meal plan and cook healthier during the winter than in the summer, when there is a camping trip (mini-vacation) around every corner or beers around the campfire on a beautiful summer night.
Ebooks will be my friend this season, as I (need to) spend time more time on my elliptical and treadmill at the gym. I’ve also been thinking about fall and winter hiking. It’s been a very long time since I went on regular hikes and we have several nice, local trail systems.
So I suppose there are a few ideas. Plus we plan on finding and booking a snowmobile/cabin getaway weekend somewhere up north, so that will probably be our big trip of the season. They are predicting Snowmageddon once again so maybe we’ll even get some sleds and hit the sledding hills.
So, bring it on, let’s get winter over with! What do you like to do during the winter months? Do you loathe it or long for it?
I too find it easier to cook better in winter. The trick is not to feel too cooped up even when everyone is telling you “the house smells wonderful and could you cook this or that…it’s sooo good.”
Yes! I really plan to get outside more, if we won’t be snowmobiling..
Can’t wait for winter. I’m spoiled with my southern California winters though. So… I just want an escape from the heat.
A southern California winter sounds delightful! Thanks for reading!
It sounds like you have several really good ideas here! Have you tried snowshoeing? That is one awesome winter exercise that I really enjoy. To read more books is always a great idea 🙂
That I did not think of! I planned on seeing about cross country ski lessons. I’ll have to look into snowshoeing. Thanks for stopping by!
I embrace the cozy. Cooking with aromatic herbs and spices feeds my soul as well as body. To keep in shape I use an exercise DVD, and, of course, walk the dogs. It’s nice to plan a little break with some sunshine somewhere after the holidays.
Ooh, that sounds good too.. Especially the cozy part. 🙂 Thanks for reading!
