What was that?

Oct 13, 2012

I love this time of year.   It’s October 13th, pumpkins are out, and Halloween, my favorite holiday, is around the corner.  Since grade school, I’ve been a huge fan of anything scary.  I remember watching Burnt Offerings with my Dad in our family room, peeking over the crocheted afghan my Mom made, while the crackling fire spat sparks against the screen of the fireplace on a chilly autumn night.  Later I’d go upstairs to bed, look out my window that faced the woods, expecting to see a dark silhouette in the distance, looking up at me.

Today I spent the day working on my online stock photography portfolio, photographing various subjects on a rainy gray October Saturday here in Metro Detroit.  I noticed several times in my photos there’d be a shadow in the corner or across the entire image.  The only time I’d seen this before was when I had my hand in front of my flash while taking the photo (duh).    ??  Weird.

So I took a break today from shooting and watched a bit of The Walking Dead marathon downstairs when I heard what distinctly sounded like a door opening, upstairs.  One of my cats, stretched out on the back of my couch, was staring intently at the top of the stairs, so I know I wasn’t hearing things.  I waited, watching for several minutes, halfway starting to become a tad freaked out since I was home alone, or so I thought.  After several minutes I made my way up the stairs, to find all doors closed, our bedroom, bathroom and my studio.

This isn’t the first time something odd has happened, one day Bill was sitting on the couch in the living room and heard something come down the stairs behind him.  Like the sound of a person coming down the stairs, only he was home alone at the time.

What about you?  What freakiness can you share to add to the creepiness of the season?   Share your stories in the comments below..
