I woke up this morning to a reminder from a friend that tonight at 8:35 pm is the new moon, a good time to list and re-evaluate your positive intentions. I was also reminded, as I got up and greeted my online world that today is also the winter solstice. As we cope with winter, the solstice was always something I looked forward to, as I knew that once we made it to the solstice (typically around the 20th of December) that the days would start to become longer, and that Spring was just around the corner. I planned to celebrate the solstice by capturing the gloomy dusk of the first day of winter, although with the temperatures we’ve had, it hardly feels that way.
In the early winter of 1993 I read an article in the Livonia Observer about the upcoming debut of the Wayne County Lightfest – Hines Drive decorated in Christmas lights from Merriman Road to Telegraph. I shared it with my roommates at the time of something cool we should do.
Tonight, 21 years later, I’m finally making good on that intention, as my husband and I will take my in-laws through it to see the Christmas lights.
Not stock quality, I know. None of these will reside in my portfolio. But I think at least I captured it pretty well from a moving car at 1600 ISO and shutter speed of 1/40. They did a great job and we enjoyed it.
That looks like an incredible light show and well captured especially from a moving car. Have a wonderful Christmas!
