This past Wednesday, my husband led me on what I think so far is the best stretch of road in southern lower Michigan. He discovered this road while making his way to Tecumseh Harley Davidson for a part, and told me I REALLY needed to visit with my camera, that I would love it. He was right.
We live north of Tecumseh, so taking I-275 south is common, to get out of the suburbs and into what I call “rural awesomeness”. Open land, cornfields, hayfields, barns, horses, cows, two lane asphalt. My photographs reflect my love for the sticks, and I found countless opportunities to photograph.
So our route was I-275 to I-94 west to US-23 south to the US-12 exit. In Saline, we turned south onto Monroe street, which would turn to Macon, then Jordan, and a few others before lost count. It was a beautiful, rural, tree-lined curvy road, and the weather and time of day made it a moment in time I will never forget. The sunlight twinkled through the trees which cast long shadows on the road. I WILL be back, unfortunately I missed countless shots because as you can tell from the pic above, there is no shoulder. No safe area to park the bikes while I’m shooting. Except for people’s driveways. 🙂 Next time will be from the passenger seat of Bill’s Ultra, or my car.
We continued down I think it was Jordan at this point and turned left onto what became Evans St. when we reached 50 in Tecumseh. We stopped for gas and made our way back the way we came just as the sun was setting, and I was happy to have caught golden hour.
If you get a chance, take this stretch of road, especially on a nice summer day. In talking with a co-worker from the area, I’m told that this is known as the “back way”. I couldn’t believe this piece of rural awesomeness was just 40 minutes from my house.
