Every person knows at least one: I’m one of those women who are “cold all the time”. I have a small space heater in my office that I run year round. I’ve worn out several of them over the years. It’s never warm enough for me in the office in the winter, and in the summer, the AC gets cranked so low that I could sit at my desk in a parka. The front of our office is all window, and gets extremely warm in the summer and winter, with the sun shining in. So, either I freeze or my co-workers sweat. I’d rather remain in the warm confines of my office.
And yes, I live in Michigan, where summer is short. I decided to finally invest in some heated riding gear to extend our season into earlier spring and later fall. I’d been searching online for a while for heated gear, a jacket liner and preferably glove liners. I wanted the heated glove liners, not heated gloves, since I wanted to be able to also use them on my snowmobile, inside my claw mitts. My sled has an electric start, so I chose the 12v heated gear, over the battery powered gear. I held off on the heated pants and socks, for now. They are likely in my future.
I found the gear I ordered at CozyWinters.com, made by Warm Gear. My stuff arrived in a relatively timely manner considering it shipped from California. The confirmation email was a bit confusing, however, so I called Customer Service to make sure I had ordered the Temperature Controller, as it appeared I had not. They were extremely friendly and helpful, and my order in full arrived several days later, on its expected arrival date.
What I also thought was nice is that this gear is also compatible with Harley Davidson and Gerbing heated gear, so you can add an accessory to gear you might already have. The Single and Dual Temperature Controllers are available as portable or permanent mount models. All the components connect: jacket, pants, gloves and socks, and can all be controlled with a single temperature controller, or the dual controller will allow you to control the temperature separately.
Everything fit perfect, I ordered medium glove liners and the women’s medium jacket liner. My husband wired it to my bike for me (simple positive and negative wires that connect to your battery) and on our next ride, I tried them on. It didn’t take long to heat up, and once it did, I was in heaven. I mentioned in another blog entry that it felt like being on my bike and standing in front of a bonfire at the same time. The radiant warmth on my arms and hands was sooo nice as we glided down theroad through the cold darkness. I wasn’t used to being warm on the bike. I mean, WARM. This was fabulous. It waswonderful to have my hands toasty warm and fully flexible. Nothing is worse than freezing on a bike where your fingers are like icicles and it hurts to hold the throttle or pull the clutch or brake in, back and shoulders tensed from the cold. I wanted to sleep in this stuff when I got home.
So far, two really warm thumbs up for Cozy Winters! Now I just need to remember to unplug before dismounting.
