We’ve been home from South Dakota two weeks and my wanderlust has not subsided.
Road Trip Sunday started out the way it normally does. Late. At 9:44am I was still on the patio with my coffee and Google Maps trying to find a cool place to go we’d never seen before, that we could get to and from with the day we had left.
I found a ride along Route 6 in Ohio from Motorcycleroads.com and it was close enough to home where we could make this one work. We would pick up Route 6 from Route 2, a familiar stretch that we’ve ridden before. The weather was perfect and it was a decent ride, but not really what I was expecting. From Huron to Vermilion, you briefly caught glimpses of the lake, in between houses that lined the lakeshore.
The silver lining was Sherod Park, really the only opportunity we had to get off the bikes and see Lake Erie.
Cedar Point in the distance..
Very cool, find, IMHO. We will likely return and make a day of it, maybe this year, maybe next.
Okay, good to know! But we saw this on the other side of the fishing pier. Ick.
Love the feeling of hot sand on your feet.
Even though the ride was a bit disappointing, finding this park made up for it.
A stop at the Original Margaritaville’s made the day even better.
Upper deck bike parking!
View from behind the bar.
Yep, a waterfall, in between the buildings!
Which is visible from the restaurant seating inside! How cool is that?
Then there is outdoor seating where you can tie off your boat or waverunner.
They had live music going out on the decks and patios, but we opted for the heavenly coolness of the lower level dining area. Super cool place to say the least! And the food and service were very, very good.
We rode back as the sun set, stopping at the Pilot in Monroe where Bill found a small fridge for work. Always carry a cargo net!
Thanks for reading! Metro Detroiters, what other cool routes have you found that are doable in a day?
We had a local lake infected with blue-green algae two years ago. The lake was closed to swimming and fishing for the summer. Winter seemed to kill it.
Okay – I don’t care how small it was, a fridge – on the back of a bike!

It happens in Lake Erie often. I wish winter would kill it. Hahaha, yes, it sounds like a new topic – “What’s the craziest thing you’ve carried on your bike? ” Hmmmm..
Gorgeous photos as always Kathleen. That water looks lovely! Wish I was that person behind the boat waterskiing!

Thank you! It was such a gorgeous day. I haven’t been out on Lake Erie in many years. I wonder how choppy it was on those skis.
