Today we didn’t have a real destination in mind, we decided to seek out roads and other places we’d never visited before. Sheridan Lake Road off of 385 is one road we’ve passed many times but have never taken. Wow! Very, very cool route, lots of hills, twists and turns.

This road took us to 16, which goes from Rapid City to Keystone. Rockerville is another town I’d been wanting to check out, it’s very small though, and I got only a few pics from the road.

We circled back to 385 and stopped at the Easy Glider, this time climbing to the top.  Too bad it doesn’t actually rock!  LOL

And we were happy to see Boondocks has reopened under new ownership!  (We saw Phil Robertson again!)

There are vendor tents set up at almost every gas stop, and Bill was in search of some new deerskin fingerless gloves. I was amazed and horrified to find this frog purse.

Yikes.
Our last stop was the High Plains Heritage Center Museum, just down the road from our campsite. The place is huge, and the view is amazing!

There were two floors of various artifacts donated and on loan from many area families.

I had no idea there were so many different types of barbed wire!

I found a single copy of Black Elk Speaks, a book I’ve been dying to read.

Along with a few others along my travels.. 🙂

Our friends Terri and Clarke invited us to their campsite for a delicious feast including Clarke’s homemade Boat wine – a delicious blend of lime and coconut! It didn’t last long.

A perfect end to a perfect day. We’re missing some of our friends, but glad for the company of those who made it.

  1. Weather is looking better. Always nice to travel down a road you haven’t been on before … And better yet when the day ends with good friends and good food.
