Day 21 of the November NaBloPoMo challenge! Today’s writing prompt was to write about an outfit you feel good in. Extra points if you post a photo of yourself wearing it.
LOL No.
The other idea was to write about a pair of shoes, and everywhere they’ve taken you. Okay, a little more like the kind of thing I could write about. My mind immediately went to my first pair of riding boots – beat up, thin-soled Harley Davidson boots. I don’t think I’ll ever part with them.
I bought them at Meijer in 2001, when Meijer was still licensed to sell HD merchandise. They had a style name, as all Harley boots do, but I don’t recall and the tags inside have long worn away. I was a passenger then, collecting my essential riding gear – jacket, helmet, gloves and boots.
The only boots I’ve taken on long trips, they’ve been with me everywhere – road trips to Kentucky, numerous trips to Sturgis, along with our two week honeymoon through Yellowstone, the Bonneville Salt Flats, Vegas, the Grand Canyon, even a stretch through Seligman, Arizona on Route 66.
Covered in dust from hiking in the Badlands to dipped in black mud from sinking into a South Dakota riverbed, they’ve been soaked in the rain and dried next to crackling campfires.
They’ve seen my first bike, a 1977 Honda 550 Four (way too big for me, which I dumped on a neighbor’s lawn), my 1986 Suzuki Intruder (a much better fit!) and finally, my beloved 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic LT, which I hope to keep for many more seasons.
Though I’ve added more boots to my collection of gear, they are the most comfortable, though scuffed and wearing thin, and by far hold the most memories.
Do you have a pair that you’ll keep forever?
I always own a pair of Timberlands. My husband bought me my first pair as a birthday gift in 1976. I’ve never been without a pair since. My favorite shoes for walking. I don’t own the first pair any longer, but they carry a lot of memories. Every pair reminds me of the time of my life I wore them. I just bought a pair last week, so they are starting new memories. Now that is an interesting format for an autobiography. Each chapter represented by a pair of shoes. Ok. I am up to late, when I start writing stuff like that.
I better say goodnight 🙂

That is a great idea!! Each pair represents a chapter in your life.. I think you are on to something!
