Day 6 of NaBloPoMo! Today’s prompt is Describe a Perfect Day.
I started on a draft for this post and got about two paragraphs in, when I realized that the setting, although nice, is not the one I dream of. I started to describe a motorcycle day trip on a beautiful summer day here in Michigan. Which is great, we’ve had plenty of nice days and we have some really pretty riding country. But what calls to my heart is 1300 miles west of here, in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
I then realized that when we ride out for the Sturgis Rally every year, we get 13 consecutive perfect days. How awesome is that? For almost two weeks we look forward to daily fun, away from our jobs hundreds of miles away. I know this pretty much sums up anyone’s vacation, but to describe a perfect day in my world, it would be this:
Waking up, unzipping the tent to a deep blue sky, the sun already blazing. Our bikes are lined up along the campground road, the chrome glittering in the sun, waiting, ready to go. It’s off to much needed coffee and breakfast, then on to whatever awesomeness the day brings. It could be a nearby visit, or a several hundred mile overnight trip.
Planned or uplanned, every day is amazing. Even with the weather. There are some incredible storms that roll through and luckily, we’ve not yet been caught in a really bad downpour or worse yet, hail.
Most of the day is spent on the bikes.
We return to camp after our adventures, sore and sometimes sunburned, make dinner plans and restock our coolers. We settle into borrowed chairs if available (we can’t carry them on the bikes) or stretch out on a blanket around the fire and enjoy a cold beverage. As it grows dark, the sky slowly fills with stars over the glow of fires in the campground and all the laughter that erupts around them. It is these times I will remember always.
I would say I could go on and on about these annual road trips, but I already do! My blog is filled with stories of trips past. Feel free to browse and check out my YouTube channel for GoPro video.
I can’t imagine days any more perfect.
I am late to the party but am enjoying these daily blog posts. Keep it coming.
Thank you so very much!! That means so much to me! <3
It is a perfect day(s).
I’ll never forget that moment!
