I think I may sleep in tomorrow. I mean, I’ve slept in today and yesterday past when I’d normally get up for work and I’m grateful for that. But it’s been a long two days. In preparation for today I helped Bill lift an AC unit into a box we were putting away, and pulled a muscle in my back. Perfect timing! Only an entire house to clean and dinner to cook.
But it all came together. Today we did turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin pie all over again with my in laws. Everything turned out perfect, including my homemade pumpkin pie and apple pie bars. I bought a turkey breast, rather than a whole turkey, and could not find my meat thermometer anywhere. Then Bill reminded me I gave it to him to use in the garage. LOL Now I remember saying, “Yeah, take it, I only use it at Thanksgiving, I’ll worry about it then!” He went off to the store to buy a new one, marking the third trip to the store today.
I folded paper towels into pope hats, a trick I learned a million years ago working at an italian restaurant. They’re always a hit. I remember one year I made them for a family event, and my pastry chef sister said, “I’m related to someone who can make those?” Haha. Perhaps I’ll share it in a future how-to post.
We visited, watched old country videos of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Another great night in the books!
