Dishwasher

Bill is flipping through Netflix and I’m once again staring a a blank laptop screen for my Nano Poblano challenge. I hear water gushing in the kitchen. The dishwasher was running and when it fills and hits the plastic bottom it sounds suspiciously like there is a leak somewhere.

I mention it to Bill and he agrees.  We’ve heard it do this before and have gotten used to it. Neither of us get up to check it. Though this time it sounded a bit different.

The dishwasher starts it’s churning again and we go back to our respective screens. I find a few series to add to my Watch list, still idea-less for today’s Nano Poblano post.

Bill gets up and hands me the remote, ready to turn in.  Heads to the kitchen and I hear:

“Nice! Water. Everywhere.”

Lord.

“I’ll get it!” he says. Not wanting me to spring off the couch and wrench my hip, bless him.

But I do get up off the couch and hobble into the kitchen to survey our flooded kitchen. And then up the stairs to get several bath towels. Great.

We mop up the mess and I Google what the cause could be. Faulty float? He checks it, and it needed cleaning, but that’s not the problem. The water coming in won’t shut off. Even with the dishwasher door open, the water is still pouring in, and out onto the floor. Water inlet valve, which actually should have been checked first, but I got ahead of myself with my Google results. OK. That’s probably what it is, but not a project to be started at 10:30pm. Tomorrow, the dishwasher comes out, we’ll see if that’s the culprit and order a new valve. At least it wasn’t a busted pipe.

I needed a blog topic but this wasn’t what I had in mind!

  1. Good grief! And I thought I had it bad when a plastic lid fell onto the dishwasher heating element during the drying cycle and caused a smell that prompted me to call the gas and electric company. (Burning plastic smells horrible.) Hope you get it fixed soon.

  2. OOO no! I’m so sorry. My washing machine broke last week, and it’s a terrible mess. It’s funny how we get so used to appliances that we don’t event hink about them…until they don’t work anymore. I hope it all got sorted out in the best possible way.
