Not long ago I wrote about having a ridiculous amount of saved Facebook links. As you might imagine, the number has only grown.
Tomorrow I’m flying down to Florida to visit family and have a four hour flight to look forward to (stop in Atlanta). So today I looked for a way to download my Facebook links locally, if possible, so I could read them on my tablet on the plane with no internet connection. Unfortunately, Facebook saved links don’t allow for offline viewing, so I found a tool called IFTTT, which I used to hook my Facebook links to Pocket, another very cool app which lets you save links to read later offline.
I created my free account and connected both my Facebook and Pocket accounts. Now, when finding an article to save, share the article from Facebook, but click the drop down at the bottom and set it to Only Me. It then shares the post on your wall, visible only by you, and automatically syncs to your Pocket account. I’m still trying to find a way, though, to import my 2,000+ links to Pocket. LOL It appears to work only with new links that you save. I spent a good bit of the morning sharing my existing Facebook links to Only Me, and I think I’ll have plenty to read on my flight.
IFTTT looks very, very cool and I have some more reading to do about it. It looks like you can use it to do much more, by linking your apps together, like the below examples. You can build “recipes” to do different things.
Pretty slick.. Do you use IFTTT? What recipes have you created or use?
I’ve never used IFTTT, but I’ve heard it’s great and very efficient! I’ll have to look into it this weekend. Hope you had a lovely trip to Florida! Can’t wait to see pictures.
Hi! Thanks so much.. Actually, it was more of a family trip – my dad was in the hospital. He’s home and better now, but it was an emotional rollercoaster week. I’m back in my studio getting into the swing of things again, slowly..
