Back in December we saw an ad for Rocky’s Great Outdoors in a program for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Motorcycle Ice Races, put on by the Flint Motorcycle Club. It looked like a very cool store that specialized in quite a few of our interests. Saturday, we headed out to Burton, MI to check it out, about an hour away. It was very easy to find – 23 north to exit 116 for Bristol Rd. Head east for about 4 miles (I think) and it’s right on the southeast corner of Bristol and Saginaw Rd.
Huge place! We instantly fell in love and did not know where to start! It was actually a bit overwhelming. Street motorcycle and motocross gear and parts, camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, hunting and fishing. And then I saw this. SMH. They walk among us.
We made our way first to the street motorcycle section. Loved the display bikes on top of each aisle!
And they do tires! Holy cow.
In the tire section were a couple of cool statues.
Pretty cool stuff. I wandered over to the canoe/kayak department, and fell in LOVE!
Yep, a clear WINDOW in the bottom of this kayak!! How cool is that??
And THEN… A cast iron double hamburger griller from the camping section. I had to have it for my Camp Cooking series.
Until I remembered we were on the bikes. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me. LOL
Yep. Into my backpack it went. Actually, it’s my Trivy Sack. But that’s a story for another day. We headed back south after perusing the store a while and then stopped in at Brighton Harley Davidson, which was putting on a summer kickoff party. We ran into some friends we ride with and spent some time catching up. It was a great day. We ended Saturday with a backyard campfire and made hobo pizzas. I cannot believe after 20 years of making a variety of these pies, I just recently learned to use foil in the irons, basically eliminating clean up. (facepalm)
Sunday we got up and did it all over again! Except for the weather. We watched a line of rain making it’s way east and figured out about how much time we had. We decided to take a familiar route instead, 94 west to 52 north to North Territorial Rd. and back. Nothing new, unfortunately, but at least it got us out on the road.
Until we approached the closed 94 ramp and had to go through Metro Airport. Hehehehe… Let me sing you the song of my people!
Vroom, vroom, vroom!
Woohoo!!
Haha.. too fun.. We made it through to Eureka Road, hopped 275 north and made our way to 94 west, our original plan. But the sky was darkening and the temps dropped a bit.
We stopped for gas in Dexter and ended up waiting out the rain, which never really arrived, not where we were. I think it went around us on both sides.
So we sat and ate our Arby’s at the Pilot truck stop. It was actually pretty cool, it really felt like we were on a long trip. Many of our stops on our way to Sturgis include Pilots and Flying Js, along the hot windy stretch across Iowa and surrounding states. Once back on the road, we continued with our plan, taking 52 north through Chelsea and onto North Territorial.
All in all it was a great Road Trip Sunday, some familiar scenery, some new. Any time on two wheels is time well spent. Hope you had a great weekend!
