This Road Trip Sunday was actually Road Trip Weekend in Harrison, MI! We were able to make the Harrison Moose Motorcycle Run this year, an annual event we hadn’t made for quite some time. The run always fell on the same date as Gene Autry Days, in Kenton, OH, where we took Bill’s mom every year, an avid Gene Autry fan. Unfortunately, the event has since been cancelled, but on the positive side, we were able to make the run and see many old friends we hadn’t seen in years.
The ride up was uneventful, except for missing a spectacular sunset because I had stowed my camera (when will I ever learn??), and also did not yet have my GoPro out. As we rode 61 west into Gladwin, the rippled clouds became a brilliant orange over the fields as we cruised by. Soon it became the time of day I do the most praying, as it was well into dusk, the prime time for deer to come running across the roadway. An SUV ahead of us slowed almost to a complete stop, and we saw a large doe on the left side of the road. Luckily, she turned and darted back into the woods as we approached.
We stayed with our dear friends Porky and Petunia, not far from the Moose, and arrived Saturday morning for the run. We had a great turnout, although we never heard the total bike count.
We started out with great weather, but ran into some wicked looking clouds from time to time. Luckily we stayed relatively dry all day.
Our second stop was the Trails End Pub, where we had an absolutely fabulous cheeseburger and fries! Snowmobile trail maps were also on display, so we’ll be sure to remember this place this coming winter.
Here is a clip just before the last stop at a VFW hall, not sure what road we were on. The skies looked cool and just before we turn, there looked to be some sort of camper/mobile home graveyard on the right.
After the run we grabbed dinner at the Jackpine, a small diner in town, and hit up Bob’s Party Store in the hope to find some Rainier, but no such luck. They did however have some interesting vino that I’ll have to sample come this Halloween..
We also got to visit with furry, feathered friends! Cassidy..
Nicholas..
And Sundance..
Wilson even got to meet the original Wilson he was named for!
Today we got up and looked at the radar, and decided to hit the road after breakfast at one of our favorite haunts.
Tiny place with the best breakfasts!! Like Rosie’s Diner in Copemish. Om, nom, nom..
What a fun time. We did get a little wet on the way home, but made it back in plenty of time to give the bikes a bath and put them to bed.
Another huge thank you to Porky and Petunia, our gracious hosts!!
So glad Porky and Billy got to sit around and reminisce with each other look at some old pictures just hang out and reconnect it was a great weekend thank you Billy and leaner bless you
