Since I’ve been off recovering from my hip surgery, I’ve had lots of extra time for self care in between walking and strengthening exercises. Bill has had YouTube set up on our smart TV but I had usually never surfed the channels until now. I’ve loved going from one topic to the next, looking up things I’ve been meaning to research, such as how to use my rock tumbler!

What are you watching, reading, listening to?
.
Watching
I almost binged the entire series of Keep Breathing on Netflix, then started it over with Bill. I found a delightfully scary movie called Devil in the Dark on Amazon Prime. Now we’re watching Meltdown: Three Mile Island, which has been pretty eye-opening to say the least.  And we’re still watching Yellowstone with two episodes to go!

Reading
This year I discovered the Christmas horror genre, which, if you know me and my love for anything scary, is right up my alley. I started with a classic by Brian Henry, The Turn of the Screw, which I’d heard was a classic Christmas ghost story. But, forgive me, I could not finish it. When I have to continually reread a sentence and try to determine what is being said is when I’m reminded that life is too short to read books that don’t grip you. Then I dove into Yuletide Frights and it started with two stories by Charles Dickens which were just as tough to get into. So I moved on to One Bleak Midwinter Night, a collection of true crime and other dark tales that take place around the holidays. Muahahahahaha..

Listening
On the topic of YouTube and smart TVs, I was delighted to realize I could put on one of the many meditation music videos at bedtime to doze off to. Bill doesn’t seem to mind, although he’s one of those people who are asleep within 5 minutes.

  1. Hi Kathleen,
Self-care Sunday sounds like a great idea. Is it a blog share or a series you are doing yourself? Sounds like the downtime following your hip surgery is doing you good.
I do believe it’s important to have a day off every week, which doesn’t always happen but is the goal. For me that often turns out to be Saturday as Sunday is Church and getting ready for the week ahead.
I’ve just finished reading “The Slap” by Australian author Christos Tsiolkas. The narrative is presented through the viewpoints of eight individual characters, and focuses on their reactions after a man controversially reprimands his friend’s son by slapping him during a social gathering and is also heavily influenced by the author’s Greek background. It was 480 pages which was a read effort for me as I’m notorious for not finishing books but I got there and miss the characters now it’s done.
Hope you’re having a great week.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

    1. Hi Rowena! This is a series I’m doing myself. I equate self care to relaxing with a good book or taking in a movie or show I’ve been looking forward to. Wow, The Slap sounds like an interesting read! I know how it feels to come to the close of a book and not wanting it to end!
