Not long ago, I wrote about a gorgeous, sunny October Saturday in which my Fair Weather Anxiety, as I call it, was in full effect. I decided I’d find ways to alleviate if not fix the problem as it was something I’d grown very tired of carrying around all my life.
So, what to do on that next beautiful day?
- Bottle up the sunshine, as they say. When you get out to enjoy it, if only for a few minutes, capture it. Take photos, write about it, do something that will help to remember this moment at a later date. Be descriptive. Why do moments like this make you happy?
- Remember past days of this kind. Years ago, I went on a canoe/camping trip with friends over 4th of July weekend. We rented tubes and floated down the Rifle River up north, under a clear blue sky, the sun shining on the green leaves as they rustled in the summer breeze. I was so happy that day, and I remember thinking what I great day it was to be alive. I haven’t forgotten it.
- Likely, there will be more. I realize there is nothing more uncertain than life itself, but there’s a good chance that this isn’t the last beautiful day you will ever have. Resist the urge to worry that a day like this won’t come again. I’ve had this anxiety since grade school. And how many gorgeous days have I experienced since? They’d be impossible to count.
- Plan something fun for dusk. If the sun is going to rise tomorrow, it has to set tonight. Take your mind off the day coming to a close by having something exciting to look forward to. It could be a campfire, a favorite TV show or movie, a dinner date, or just letting yourself curl up with a book. Anything that brings you joy.
Thoughts? Does this happen to you? How do you get through it?
A nice day 🙂
It sure was.. Thanks for reading!
