Do you like snow or dread when it starts falling? That is today’s prompt for the Blogher Writing Lab. I’ve been thinking of snow more lately since Christmas is in two more days and it’s always nice to have a white Christmas. We also have a snowmobile trip planned for early January that looks like it’s going to be cancelled, unfortunately,
I’m here in Metro Detroit, Michigan and recently I wrote about snowfall, when we had our last decent snow just before Thanksgiving, about 5 inches. That day, I remember enjoying watching it fall, it actually flew by horizontally for a while there when the wind picked up. It was a cozy morning, sipping coffee in my pajamas as I tapped away at my keyboard, flames of a fire dancing in the fireplace. I felt comfy, safe, with nowhere to go and had all I needed. Maybe it’s the contrast of a good winter storm that brings out the feeling of safety and comfort. We appreciate so much not having to drive in the icy conditions. When the snow stopped, it seemed a bit disappointing, like the view of snow falling outside adds to the ambiance inside. Once it stops, it’s like the magic is over and the buzz of snowblowers begin.
So do I like snow? My favorite times are in the summer, camping, riding my motorcycle, being out in the yard in the sun, so no, it’s not my first pick. But as long as I live where it snows, I’ll pick out the positives. Frigid weather makes us appreciate those hot summer days. Snowmobiling passes the time during the winter, and is a ton of fun. But if I had to choose, it would be the warmth of the sun and the sound of the crickets, over the glistening blanket of snow, any day.

Kathleen give me snow over this wet, damp, foggy stuff any day … especially for Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow (Never thought I’d hear myself saying that!)

Yes, I agree, a covering of the white stuff would be so much more scenic, especially on the trees.. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
