All evil things begin with Pinterest. It’s where I found the recipe for Halloween Bark in October, melted vanilla candy coating over chopped Halloween Oreos, sprinkled with sugar laden novelties of your choice. Extremely tasty. The Halloween Bark turned out so well that I received a request for it at work for the Christmas holiday.   Our last day of work before the holiday being Tuesday the 23rd, I set out Monday night to pull this together.

Lesson learned #1: Do not wait until December 22nd to find Christmas Oreos.  There were absolutely none to be found, so I opted to go with original Oreos and attempted to dye the candy coating red.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Lesson learned #2:  Do not try to dye the candy coating. Stick with different themed Oreos with different colored fillings, like the red I was trying to find, or, use plain Oreos and festive sprinkles.  Upon pouring in the red food coloring, the perfectly melted vanilla candy coating promptly became red PlayDoh in my saucepan. Panicking, and knowing I had no milk, I reached for my fat free Hazelnut creamer, which thinned the mixture enough to pour over the crushed Oreos.  It worked, for the most part, but did not quite harden like the vanilla candy coating. Still edible.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The last batch turned out relatively normal, and I ended up having a good amount of evil goodness to share with my co-workers.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I like the idea that this can be made for any holiday, just by using different Oreos or sprinkles, in which the variety is very broad.

How about you?  What new holiday recipes did you try this year?
