Good Morning!
Come on in on this dreary, wet Sunday. At least it’s not freezing out, but the forecast pretty much called for rain all day today.
If we were having coffee, I’d apologize for missing our chat last week – we were camping at Bishop Lake for Mother’s Day weekend and I was also in mobile data jail until Sunday night (no bandwidth left for the month to post to my blog!) or we’d have caught up at the campsite. The weather was warmer than expected, we got to see my sister and brother-in-law gorgeous new fifth wheel, and I got to take my kayak out for maiden voyage!
I opted for an inflatable one after talking to my niece, who is a buyer for an outdoor sports company. With the fifth wheel, it would be tough to put a rack on the truck for a solid one piece kayak, and the snap together kind haven’t gotten great reviews, I’ve heard. Really, I just wanted something to tool around in when we go camping, something entry level.
The black nylon seat serves as a backpack to carry everything in!
OMG, I’m hooked. I had such a blast paddling around semi-familiar bodies of water (we’d walked along/around them plenty of times, but this time I got to see just how far they stretch out)!
I paddled past this island of reeds and came within ten feet of two beautiful swans.. Later, one of them came out for a swim.
My life vest has a GoPro clip and I got some footage with my new Hero Session!
If we were having coffee, I’d also mention I missed my planned Camp Cooking post because I was horrified to discover I lost the beloved cooking stand Bill made me. I think I left it at the last campground. (crying) The plan was campfire pizza in my cast iron pan.
Luckily, we salvaged dinner by baking it in the oven. I used my fry bread recipe for the crust, and regular sauce and pizza toppings.
Sigh. It was good, but I was disappointed to miss a Camp Cooking post and even more about the loss of the stand my awesome husband surprised me with.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you how geeked I am that the last of my Amazon booty arrived! (Rubbing hands together) Joyland is next, I can’t wait to read it! I’ve heard great reviews and it sounds like my favorite type of King book.
AND, I’m happy to report that I’m one book ahead on my 2017 GoodReads reading challenge!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you we are off again, this time to Ohio to celebrate my niece’s high school graduation. I’m looking forward to checking out a new park! If you camp and are on RVillage, let’s connect! This week will go fast, with another trip to plan and look forward to. I’m kicking around the idea of putting together a camping checklist, for download from my blog. There are tons of camping checklists out there, but I’m thinking of using form fields so that they can be customized. Off all the camping checklists I’ve found, many of them contain things I’d likely not bring, or, there isn’t a way to add your own items. Would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments!
So enough about me, how was your week? More coffee?

Enjoy your trip. The last one sounds like a blast. Glad you had fun. I’m one book ahead on the challenge, too. Of course, I said I’d read 12 this year. One a month? I think I can swing it. 🙂
Your camping trip was once to remember. I am behind in my Goodreads challenge by 3 books.
