Good morning and come on in! It’s a balmy 39 degrees out there, but at least it’s dry. Coffee or tea? Pick a pod or a bag! Make yourself comfy.
How was your Halloween? We had fun but were disappointed in the very small number of kids we received. We had our driveway all set up and chatted with our neighbor next door. There are more and more Halloween activities popping up, trunk or treats, and the like, and that’s fine. I just hope it doesn’t eventually kill Halloween night. October 31st should always be Halloween! I suppose it depends on your neighborhood and how it evolves. Right now my little section of the world doesn’t have too many neighborhood kids.
The pics above are from our driveway, showing the back of our house. We live on a main road, and our garage is on the side street. We’ve found that we don’t get many trick or treaters at the front door – they come up the side street, cross and go back down but rarely go around to the front of our house on the main road. So for the last several years, we’ve set up in the driveway and have seen more kids that way.
I was really happy to see that more folks dressed up for Halloween at work than I thought would. And most that didn’t, still wore something festive, (i.e. orange and black). Then we went trick or treating from cube to cube, something I’ve never done at work before! It turned out to be a fun day. Though I totally, absolutely HATE photos of myself, I will share my costume – Joyce Byers from Stranger Things.
It was funny, hardly anyone at work knew who I was supposed to be (if you didn’t watch the show, you wouldn’t get it) but the very first group of six year old trick or treaters we received knew exactly who I was. Haha.
AND, I received my October box from Twitterstone! It’s a subscription book box that was recommended by a fellow Instagrammer, on the heels of the Nocturnal Reader’s box debacle. I was so happy it arrived on Halloween! I’ll do an unboxing post soon, it’s common to wait a bit so that everyone receives their boxes and there are no spoilers.
Then Thursday I took down all the decor from my decked out cube. (sniff)
But yesterday I was over the moon happy to receive the news that our flexible work arrangement plan (working from home X number of days a week) is COMING! Not until mid-2019, but it’s coming. We weren’t sure if we’d be allowed do it at all until now, so this is great news. So now I need to find out about upgrading my internet speed. It’s nice having something to look forward to! I can’t wait to be able to enjoy a beautiful summer day working from my patio instead of getting up to look out the window from the 12th floor, longing to be out in the sunshine. Not to mention logging in from home while the snow piles up outside and I don’t have to leave my house. Grateful and excited!
So, I have a pretty full weekend in store which includes putting away all the Halloween decor (crying) and winterizing the camper (crying even harder), coming to the end of two things I love so much, camping and Halloween. But, the scariness continues! My awesome husband DVR’d a movie for me Don’t Breathe, which I’ve been wanting to see. We watched it last night and it was very, very good! And yesterday I bought the DVD for the new IT movie by Stephen King. I typically don’t buy a DVD until I’ve seen the movie and liked (loved) it, but I took a chance here. I’m a huge Stephen King fan, and I heard the movie reviews were great.
Then we turn our clocks back, so we’re entering into the period of time where it’s dark when you get up to go to work and it’s dark when you get home. At least it’s only a little over a month, and the days start to get longer again after the winter solstice. The time change has never bothered me though, it’s advertised enough so I don’t forget, and a 60 minute time difference really doesn’t affect my day. My morning alarm is on my phone, which gets its updates from the network, so I don’t even have to worry about that. On with life!
So how was your week? More coffee?

Glad you have a fun Halloween! My second-favorite holiday is this weekend — I get my hour back! 🙂 My first favorite holiday is the first day of Winter.
Hope November is a good month for you. Good luck with blogging every day!
Thanks and glad you’re back! I can’t say I like the winter solstice but I like winter campfires and the fact the days start to get longer. 🙂
Wow – Kathleen, if you get this attached to Halloween, dare I ask how Thanksgiving and you get along? In my post for the weekend, I pointed to my only Halloween story but I’m almost hesitant to suggest you check it out. One year, back in Jr. High school, a friend and I took a whole different approach to being the scary side of the evening for our wee neighbors. You might love it – but you might also want to put a price on my head.
Anyway. I love your visits to this weekend share. Please keep coming.
I can’t wait to check it out! 🙂 Thanksgiving is more of a somber time for me.. Good to see family, but the time of year is depressing – all the colorful leaves are gone (which are mostly at their peak around Halloween), cold, everything is dead and brown. I have to work to keep my spirits up when Thanksgiving rolls around (no Halloween pun intended). Thanks as always for reading!
Halloween was busy as usual (I am an elementary school teacher) but enjoyable. I love seeing the kids in their costumes and it is a really fun day for them.
🙂 If I were a teacher the kids would be sick of Halloween long before Halloween! LOL
I love the costume! 🙂
Thank you and thanks so much for stopping by!
I love your costume–so creative! We only had about 18 kids here but we live in a very small town so that wasn’t bad. I’m also on a flexible work schedule–I hope you get one too–it’s a great way to work!

Thanks! It’s been a while since I chose a costume, I usually just dress festive. I’m very excited about the flexibility. My commute is 45 minutes on a good day, snow day or accident, easily 2 hours one way.
Looks like you enjoyed Halloween. You will enjoy telecommuting. Snowy days no longer mean having to decide to risk life and limb r using valuable leave time.
looks like you really get into the halloween spirit!! And I love stranger things!!! were the lights on your costume flashing eerily by themselves that would have rocked .. we dont really do Halloween here I can picture looking someone dressed like a hellish fiend like is this how you choose to kill me ha!
have an awesome week

I do! Such a fun time of year.. Yes, lights are battery powered and they flashed or flickered – different settings! It was a fun day.. Thanks for stopping by!
I’m happy you had a good Halloween, despite the small number of ghosts visiting. Being able to have a more flexible work schedule sounds awesome, really something to look forward to. Thanks for the coffee!
I got a sampling of it today – my car broke down and I was allowed to work remotely. I got so much done! Can’t wait for this to be a routine.
I’m not a fan of the shorter evenings that come with the time change. Other than that, “eh.” Your Halloween decor was on point btw! Thanks for the coffee!
Thanks very much! 🙂
You certainly know how to have to have Halloween fun!
It’s always been my favorite time of year!
