Good Morning! Come on in and here’s a blanket to go with your coffee. I thought we ran out of propane during the night, but Bill found it was an issue with the igniter. This Weekend Coffee Share is brought to you from Hayes State Park in the beautiful Irish Hills! It should warm up in here soon.
I’ve been in all my Halloween glory as we count down until next Wednesday. We are cleared to wear costumes to work and will even partake in trick or treating from cube to cube. It will be so fun if we get decent participation! I hope I can pull off my costume idea and I’ll share pics at our next coffee share. Maybe. For being so in love with photography, I’m the farthest from photogenic.
At least it’s looking dry out there today. The forecast called for a pretty wet weekend but I pray the radar is correct because it’s showing everything is to our northeast. My Canadian coffee buds, grab an umbrella! It’s coming for you.
Last night we arrived at the campground in the dark, as we always do in late October. We saw SO many deer on both sides of the road, and, as we sat out enjoying a fire, an OWL hooted several times in the woods beyond our site! It was so cool to hear, and spooky, because at first I thought it was a person. We live where the only wildlife you hear are crickets and the occasional barking dog. To hear an owl, or especially wolves and coyotes when we travel out west is really a special treat.
Today I’ll walk the campground with my camera, and I might seek out parts of the old campground that were closed years ago. There is a trail that runs along Round Lake that is gravel in the middle, which was one of the campground loops. If I remember correctly, there are remnants of an old drinking fountain and other artifacts back there. I don’t have my kayak with me, how I’d love one last paddle! It’s 42 degrees out right now though, so I’m thinking that’s not in the cards.
We are LOVING this campsite, however. It’s huge! It’s the very first one in the loop, so the downside is you’ll get lots of traffic going by. BUT, there is all kinds of room to park or put a boat if you bring one. And, it has water in addition to electricity. It really made a difference in towing when you don’t have almost 450 extra pounds of water in the tank on the way to the campground. It’s nice having better water pressure, too! I’m guessing this site is probably very hard to reserve in the summer, but we will see.
Tonight we will visit Stagecoach Stop and check out their haunted attractions this year. Every year they outdo themselves and I’m excited to see what they’ve put together for the 2018 season. Still praying the rain holds off though as one of the events, my favorite, is a haunted hayride.
Aw, a black cat just trotted across the field to the woods across the street! That made my last Halloween camping weekend!

We called time on camping last month, well done eeeking it out a bit longer!
I love camping around Halloween.. Two of my favorite things!
I so miss camping. The last time I went camping was when my daughter was a brownie in the Girl Scouts. That was hard-core primitive camping, cooking over fire only, tents all the way. But I liked camping with the GS. One of the protocols was to always have a centerpiece with dinner. Enjoyed your post … enjoy your fall.
A centerpiece, cool idea! I’ve gone full circle with camping, my folks always had a trailer or motorhome, I tented it in my 20s and also went back country camping.. Now we have a fifth wheel. I miss tent camping and cooking over the fire, until it rains! Thanks so much for reading!
What a glorious spot for camping in the autumn.
I love this park! Lots of memories here.
Sounds like a fun Halloween!
I hope the weekend wasn’t too wet, it looks like a gorgeous place for photo-walks.
I took a photowalk and I’m crafting a blog post, Forgotten Hayes.. Hopefully by the weekend.. 🙂
