Good morning and welcome back to the Weekend Coffee Share! Come on in out of the late October frostiness. It’s a good morning to cozy up by the fireplace.. Make yourself at home!
It’s the final full week of October and I’m still in all my Halloween glory. We have yet to carve pumpkins, but the wildflower garden has been set up as a haunted forest..
And last night we set up our dead rock band, Halloween Rocks. Hehehe..
This week I was happy to hear that we’ll be partaking in some Halloween festivities at work (well, I hope most people will) such as trick of treating between cubicles and wearing costumes. In the past we’ve held the traditional activities such as costume contests and cube decorating contests, but this is the first time I’ve ever trick or treated at work. Should be fun! I’ve had my cube decorated since late September.
I have enough Halloween and horror themed books to last me until St. Patrick’s Day, and then I’ll probably load up with more. I just published a post on tsundoku, or the act of buying books that just end up on your perpetual TBR.. I’m still reading Haunted, and just had to renew it through my library website. Monday through Wednesday my library is having a book sale, so while I go to browse the titles, I’ll also be dropping off donations that I’ve pulled from my ever growing inventory.
Friday evening we attended Hallowe’en at Greenfield Village for the second time. I missed it last year due to my bum hip but we bundled up this year and walked the roads lined with pumpkins with trick or treaters milling around all the old buildings within. The weather was perfect and the displays and special effects were outstanding! Cool, breezy and even the light sprinkle as the night came to a close made for the perfect setting. Look for another blog post with pics and all the detail!
I am over the harvest moon excited that tonight I will get to visit Eloise, a long vacant mental hospital not far from my house. The building and grounds have been sold, and will soon be redeveloped. I was lucky to score tickets through the Detroit Paranormal Expeditions and will be going on the tour from 7pm to 9pm. I can’t wait!! Today I’ll be putting an extra layer of glow in the dark paint on my skeleton gloves, just for the occasion.
I’ll also prepare for this event that I’m not sure I’m ready for, the more I think about it! I’m excited and a little freaked out. There is no power in the building and at 7pm it will be dark. From what I’ve been able to find out, the groups are 25 – 30 people and we are free to roam each floor. In the dark. I’ll have flashlights, but this will be like nothing I’ve ever done before! I need to pack my camera bag and make sure my speedlight is working.
Which just leaves getting through this week at work and then into our final camping weekend (sniff). We will be visiting Hayes State Park, one of our favorite haunts, pardon the pun. There is a haunted attraction just outside the park where I’ll get to feed my Halloween addiction yet again. What a wonderful time of year!
With that, I’ll refill your cup and leave you with the best Halloween song ever!
Grab a beverage and join us over at Eclectic Ali’s for the #WeekendCoffeeShare!

I love Hallowe’en but this year I’m going to be in Toronto. I live on the 34th floor, so I don’t get any trick or treaters, unlike at home, where I love to see the little ones in their costumes!
mydangblog recently posted…My Week 213: Speaking My Mind, I Am Your Sunshine
34th floor, your views must be fantastic!!! I work on the 12th floor and get a decent view of the Detroit skyline.. Have fun in Toronto! I’ve never been there but I’ve heard it’s a very, very cool place to visit.
Cozying up by the fireplace sounds perfect today! We’ve had the worst thunderstorm last night, and it has been raining this morning. I love it! …it looks like the sun is breaking through the clouds now though. Love your Halloween photos. I hope you’re enjoying an awesome weekend Kathleen.
I love thunderstorms.. We had a pretty decent storm come through and postpone the most rivaled college football game of the year, University of Michigan vs. Michigan State. It thundered quite a bit while I was at the gym. It’s been a pretty event-filled weekend! Thanks as always for stopping by and have a great week!
The haunted forest theme looks pretty rad.
We dont do halloween here although on tv they celebrating 31 days of halloween by showing a scary movie every evening, But if one were to pull any halloween decor I bet people would look at you like you are cavorting with forces of darkness and not visit an you and if they do refuse your food and stand vigil at your gate praying for the deliverance of your soul hahahaha

Looks like exhuberant Halloween fun.
I was completely in my element this weekend!!
We LOVE Halloween too, but now that we live in Germany it is much more difficult to celebrate. There are a few events, but I do miss seeing the Trick O Treaters.
