Christmas coffee mug

Good Morning and come on in! I was hoping to wake up to snow but it either didn’t stick or passed us by. Grab a cup and make yourself comfy. How was your week?

I’m now 11 days post op and doing well! I can tell every day how the soreness is fading and my mobility is improving. Things really could not have gone better, considering and for that I’m grateful.

My days are now a mix of resting and walking on my new treadmill, which I’m very happy with! I decided on the Horizon T101 (not an affiliate). The freight company brought it inside my front door and Bill had it set up that evening. Every hour or so I get up and slowly walk for about 5 minutes. I’ve set up my office on the couch in our living room and surf through YouTube videos on all sorts of topics I’ve had bookmarked away, things I’ve always wanted to look further into. I’d have never had time to sit and watch videos before, so, as anxious as I am to get back to normal, I’m grateful for this downtime as well.

This has also given me the luxury of more time to dive into books and movies, but I’ll share that as part of my Self Care Sunday series. Stay tuned!

How about you? Need a warm up? I’ll be by shortly to visit and see how your week went. Thanks for stopping by and thank you to Natalie for hosting our Weekend Coffee Share!

  1. I wish you continued wellness as you heal and return to what life you enjoyed before your surgery (made a guess it was surgery)…I know this kind of progress well, and you sound like you are doing very well indeed. Denyse #weekendcoffeeshare

    1. Thank you Denyse! Yes, I had a total hip replacement on 11/29. It’s actually my second one, now I have a matching pair. I feel like it’s healing faster than last time around.

  2. Hi Kathleen – I’m glad it’s all going well – you’re doing well to be walking without crutches – but I guess the treadmill gives you something to hold onto for stability. I was walking and slowly increasing my distance from the second week, but used an elbow crutch for balance and taking some of the weight off the recovering hip. Glad you’re also getting some books, TV and blogging into your schedule too.

    1. Thank you! Yes, definitely holding on to the treadmill as I walk. I’m at the point where the walker/crutches are becoming cumbersome. Yes, trying to make the most of this time before I return to work.

  3. Glad your recovery is going well and you’re enjoying the downtime! Time to read and watch is definitely a silver lining (though I’ve always been bothered that most of us are so busy, it takes an illness or injury to make us slow down. And by “us,” I mean, “me.” Sigh.)

I hope your recovery continues to go well!

  4. I’m so glad you’re doing so well, all things considered. I love watching YouTube videos on all kinds of topics too. I’m also happy you’re more able to read now. I understand you didn’t ask to need this surgery and recovery time, but you’re making the most of it in all of its aspects (by exercising as well as taking good care of yourself).

    1. Thank you! This downtime has also showed me that I won’t be bored when I retire! LOL That is still a good few years off, but I’m grateful for all interests I have and things to work on.

  5. That’s fantastic news about your recovery, Kathleen! Well done with the regular walking and I hope you continue to get better and feel you can get back to your normal life.

  6. So very glad to know that your recovery is going well, and that you’re progressing easily. Really wonderful news! Wishing you continued ease in the whole process! Truly thrilled for you!

    1. Thanks so much Dinah! Trying to do everything I’m supposed to. I really am grateful there are solutions to this kind of thing. I can’t imagine what our ancestors went through.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by! Yes, walking is my favorite exercise, so when my surgeon said, “walk as much as you can”, I was very happy! No need to twist my arm.

  7. Yea Kathleen,
    Good recover so far.
Hang in there and stick with how wise you’re being about your exercise.
It sounds like this will all be history pretty soon and you’ll be moving easy again.
