We’re on location at Hayes State Park in the Irish Hills! Pull up a chair by the fire pit and stay a while. I actually wrote this piece in my nifty new Rocketbook!
It’s a reusable note book that has an accompanying app that scans your hand written text and dumps it to a destination of your choice – email, OneNote, Evernote, Dropbox, etc. It works with several cloud services. It has an OCR feature that makes everything searchable text. Then, you wipe the page clean and re-use. Pretty cool! A co-worker of mine notified our team that it was featured on sale on the Amazon Treasure Truck and now several of us on the team are in awe of its voodoo. I like that there are multiple destinations to send to so I can use it for work and home.
I missed our last coffee share because I was out having a BALL camping with dear friends on Lake Erie. We cooked over the fire using this awesome grill our friend Jim made.
They also gave me this awesome steel cut out of a freighter he and their son made (they are metal fabricators) my little boat nerd heart was overjoyed!
Saturday we visited the River Raisin National Battlefield Park and watched a pretty sobering documentary of what took place here in 1812 and 1813. We then walked the grounds and a trail that loops through the park. The visitor center is really nice and so informative.
Later, we had lunch at Clamdiggers, a place I’d always wanted to go – by boat! its right on the River Raisin before the DTE Monroe Power Plant. It was a gorgeous, breezy afternoon to enjoy lunch on the patio over looking the marina.
Popular bike destination, too!
Then back at the campground, we walked the beach rock hunting and got to see a freighter backing out into the lake from the power plant! We had heard a single blast of her horn earlier and when I looked it up on my Marine Traffic app, we saw it was the American Century, likely unloading coal at the power plant.
So here we are camping again, and next weekend too! It’s a beautiful day and we’re making the most of it. My fire this morning is to make some Hungarian lecso for lunch, using tomatoes and peppers from our garden.
I’m so behind on my Camp Cooking series. My sister and I have lots more ideas, I just need more time in the day for all I love to do. Don’t we all?
Thanks so much for joining me for coffee! I’ll be around shortly in between chopping peppers. Thanks again to Natalie the Explorer for hosting our weekend coffee share!
Looks wonderful! I am going to look up theater Rocketbook
Hi Antoinette! Let me know what you think! I love that I don’t have to lug my work laptop to meetings.. And I can jot down blogging ideas on the go and copy them into WordPress..
Rocketbook sounds like a fantastic gadget. I’m particularly in awe of the fact that it includes OCR. I assume you did need to edit out some misinterpretations from the app, but that’s totally okay.
I’m so happy you are having such great time at camp.

Hi Astrid! Actually I was very surprised at how well the OCR conversion is! I only had to fix very few typos. I think if your handwriting is pretty legible to begin with, it will come over very nicely. Thank you! We are having a ball. It looks like rain today but I have lots of reading and blogging to do, so that will be fine. Hope you’re doing well!
The rocketbook looks very cool. I just took a look at their website and one may show up at my house soon (maybe on my birthday list, not bought outright…) Camping on the shores of Erie sounds good – I grew up a couple of miles from the lake and I still like those huge lake “boats”, so think your cutout is great. Hope your weekend is goign well and you have a wonderful week.
Oh, very cool, I hope you like and find it useful! I was surprised that they are rather inexpensive, too. My sister and I head back to Lake Erie camping the end of this week. I can’t wait. If you’re ever back in town, visit the National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo, if you haven’t already. Thanks for stopping by!
I have never heard of the Rocketbook! What an awesome invention. I’ll have to look into that. Your harvest look wonderful. I cleaned out all my warm weather crops this weekend. I have already started a cool weather garden in two different locations. I’ve been reading a book about winter gardening in cold climates this week, and I’ve ordered some more seeds to expand my winter garden this coming week. It’s going to be interesting to see if things actually grow during the coldest months.
Cheers to a great new week! I hope your bread turned out great!
I made the lecso and holy cow I will have to freeze it and save it for 50 below day! SO hot! The Hungarian wax peppers get hotter as they mature and turn red. They are hot enough when yellow! I’ll have to look into winter gardening, I’m not sure if I could do that in my zone. Thanks for stopping by!
I’m intrigued by the Rocketbook. I looked at a few reviews, and it seems like the OCR doesn’t work too well with cursive. Is that the case in your experience? I’d love to have an easy way to transcribe handwritten notes.
Hi Janet! Not sure about the cursive, I tend to take notes in print. I’ll try it though.
Loved the post, a great introduction to your blog. Curious about the “Grammar Nazi” does that relate to your occupation? Love t he pictures of the water, the beach and even the ship. My dad was in the Merchant Marine so when I was a kid, I drew a lot, A LOT of pictures of cargo ships. Shared on my Facebook page and looked up a recipe for Hungarian Lecso. Best and blessings, Michele
Haha.. I worked in documentation for years and co-workers of mine and I would always trade funny grammar-related memes.. Like “Grammar Police – To Correct and Serve..” I am close to Lake Erie and the Detroit River, so I LURVE watching the freighters as they pass. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for your weekend coffee share. Glad you discovered the Rocketbook and had fun camping. Your tomatoes and peppers look beautiful. Have a great week!

Thank you! Hoping to have more this season as they continue to grow.
Hi Kathleen – I hadn’t heard of a Rocket Book before and it’s pretty darn cool. I don’t have the need to take notes much these days, but if I ever do, I’ll be snapping one of these up. Lovely that you can be out and about camping and enjoying the weather (we’re just coming out of Winter and I’m looking forward to some sunshine again).
How I wish I could start summer over again! Always so sad to see it go. Thanks for stopping by!
Love the camping coffee image at the start of your post.
I haven’t heard of the Rocketbook, but it sounds neat.
Thanks for the virtual coffee. Have a great week, Kathleen.
Thank you! I may come up with some different ones.. I’ve really enjoyed using the Rocket Book so far!
