Good Morning and welcome back to camp! I always thought I wanted to be a full time RV’er and with as much camping as we’ve done lately, it kind of feels like it. We unpack, work, pack the trailer at the end of the week and we’re gone again. I love it! Pull up a camp chair and make yourself comfy. Throw another log on the fire, too, if you want.
This weekend we are back at Sterling State Park in Monroe, MI, right on Lake Erie. I took Friday off (which was GORGEOUS) and we set up camp Thursday night. I couldn’t sleep Friday morning, peeked out my window and saw the horizon over the lake just start to turn orange. I decided to grab my camera and catch the sunrise, something I don’t get to do too often.
When I got to the beach, I was excited to see a freighter in the distance and then realized I’d taken the Marine Traffic app off my phone to make room for something else (this has been maddening, btw!). So. I stood there on the beach scrolling through apps to remove, installed Marine Traffic and from the map saw that it was most likely the Manitowoc.
I looked up from my phone and… you guessed it!
I missed the sunrise. LOL
Lordy. So I walked back to camp, got my coffee and started my day. I spent the earlier morning researching gluten and the benefits of not having it in your diet. My right hip has been killing me and on Thursday I learned my only option now is surgery. However, I’ve also recently spoken with several friends who have been utterly amazed at how much better they felt after eliminating gluten and carbs from their diet. Aches, pains, brain fog, gone. Not to mention I’m still reading Grain Brain, which talks about this very thing.
I took a break from this book as I had a hankering to switch genres for a bit. It’s good info, but a bit heavy. Now, on the heels of this discovery (hip surgery), I want/need to dive back into this book. Perhaps a diet change will provide some relief or maybe, hopefully, eliminate the need for surgery. Can’t hurt to try it.
I’m still loving my Rocketbook and from the comments from last week’s post, do let me know if you ordered one and how you like it. (I’m not an affiliate, I just love mine and wanted to share.) I have some notes to scan today for some future blog posts on our Camp Cooking adventures.
More coffee?
Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to visiting your “campfires”. Thank you again, Natalie the Explorer, as always for hosting our Weekend Coffee Share. Do you blog or know someone that does? Join us!
You may not have gotten the sun rising but the photo you did get was lovely in itself! I love your “Monkees” mug, by the way. I spent my youth mooning over Peter Tork. 🙂

Thank you! I’m glad we got to see Mike, Mickey and Peter in concert in Detroit a few years back. My husband was a huge fan as well.
Hi Kathleen,
I so want to find some time to seriously explore Michigan. Now that our daughter lives there, it might actually happen.
Were you part of the coffee share when I was dealing with my back issues? I felt like my useful life was all but over it hurt so bad and finally a doctor said that surgery was my only option. Weight loss might have helped years ago but would not help now. I gave in, had it done and – wow – life changing, even life saving.
All that pain is now a distant memory.
I don’t know all your details of course, but as you proceed, I hope you find an answer as good as mine was.
I hope you can visit! Michigan has some really nice scenery from mid-lower to the upper peninsula.. Along with the Lake Michigan shoreline.. I don’t recall your back issues – that might have been during the time I winked out for a few there.. I’m glad you are no longer in pain. If I get another hip, I’ll have a matching set, but in the meantime, I’m super curious to explore getting my inflammation down through diet changes. We’ll see!
I grew up on Lake Erie and always enjoyed seeing the big lake boats go by. Sorry about the up-coming surgery. I hope you have a great week!
This campground is near and dear.. My dad took us here for years and I fished with him on Lake Erie. Caught my first – a catfish – here. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and the good wishes!
Are you remote-working from your RV? If so, I’d love to hear more about how well it works and what the challenges are. Now that I can work remotely some of the time, I’ve been thinking about building in some travel, and working from a campground sounds amazing (if the wifi is good enough for the hours of Zoom meetings that make up my work life).
How I WISH I could.. Our remote work policy prohibits the use of a hotspot except in an emergency deadline situation. We must be working from a secure home office location. I would love to be able to travel and work. Though at times I’m sure it would be hard to focus. 🙂
Kathleen, Thank you for your weekend coffee share. Your camping spot looks beautiful. Sorry to hear about your hip pain. I hope you have a great week!

Thank you, I miss camping so much already!
That photo of the sun and water is beautiful Kathleen and I’m glad you’ve been out and about enjoying the camping and RV life – it all sounds pretty relaxing to me.
I love it so much. I can’t imagine a life without these kind of trips. Thank you for reading!
That app for marine traffic sounds really cool. So does the rocketbook. I started using Artful Agenda last year and really like it. It’s a desktop and mobile app.
I hope you had a great time camping. Your photo of the sunrise was beautiful.
Thank you! I will need to check out Artful Agenda.. Thanks for sharing!
Grain Brain sounds fascinating, thanks for the link share. I’ve suffered with hip pain on and off for a long time now. It’s a long story, trying to manage through yoga. You have my sympathy especially losing sleep.
A friend just recommended Yin Yoga. I have a book and cd on yoga I’ve never really spent time with. I’ve noticed just how much I miss being able to sit on the floor and strrreettcchh after a long day of work. I think it’s something I’ll definitely explore once I can move again.
