Good morning! Thanks for swimming over! Let me get you a towel and some hot coffee. These are days I’m glad we don’t have a basement. Next garbage day we’ll see rolls of carpet and padding at everyone’s curb. It’s been raining non-stop since Friday, REALLY hard at times. Lots of flooding everywhere in my town.
Friday night was the first time I’ve ever seen my ENTIRE front yard underwater. By Saturday morning it had gone down and if it hadn’t I’d have brought my kayak out for a pic!
At our last coffee share, we were on our way out to South Dakota to visit our land for the week. Our time out there was amazing and I can’t wait to relive it – check back for that story! I’ll be digging into those pics and video soon. Here is a sneak peek – we took our dirt bikes and got to ride around our property! What an amazing week!
So, we are back from South Dakota and back to reality. Sunday was the summer solstice and we once again celebrated with a campfire, as we usually do for each solstice and equinox. It’s one of my favorite times of the year, with the exception of the days getting shorter again.
Our state opened up completely on Tuesday, and this week we received details in terms of returning to the office. We will be going back the end of August and I’m so happy to learn – 1 day a week onsite. I didn’t think I would like it 5 days a week at home when our office first went remote, even if it were offered to us. COVID taught me otherwise. For the last 15 months it’s been heaven having a 20 second commute round trip (instead of 90 minutes) and working in complete silence all day. Of course I’d give it all back in a minute for COVID to have never happened, but if there was a silver lining, this is it. It will be nice though, to see my co-workers, see our beautifully renovated building, see the Detroit skyline, have lunch together in our Greektown district and again I’ll be able to catch a glimpse of my beloved freighters.
The 4th of July weekend is upon us (where is the summer going??) and I’ll soon be in planning and packing mode again, which I honestly love. I will be researching more meals to cook over the fire with the cast iron for the Camp Cooking series. I am grateful to my sister Rose, who has inspired me to get back into experimenting. It was she who wanted to learn to cook over the fire, so I pulled out my cast iron and looked up some recipes. I am by no means an expert, I’ve been learning as I go as well. It’s been fun.
I hope you’ve had a great week, you’ve stayed dry, and your coffee is hot. I’ll be by shortly and thank you as always for stopping by!
Yes what a weekend ~ stay dry over there at least you have a kayak if needed and thank goodness no basement!
Haha yes – my toys make for backup transportation – kayak for flooding and snowmobiles for days of snowpocalypse!
Your land out west sounds fun. Are you planning to retire there?
Have a great week 💜
Retire yes, but hopefully sooner! We love it out there to no end..
Wow, a lot of water! I hope no damage. It’s funny, I started teleworking full time just a couple of months before Covid made teleworkers out of everyone. It was a transition over several years staring with one day a week teleworking. I don’t think I could ever go back to full time at the office and my commute was only 45 minutes. 90 minutes? Too long! Hope your transition back to work goes well.
Ah, yes, from the comment on my blog, you are in the Detroit area, so not too far where I will be on the shore of beautiful Lake Erie.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Luckily no basement, so just yard flooding. Prior to COVID we were two days onsite, now post COVID we will be one day onsite. I too, don’t think I go back to a five day a week commute.. And, 90 minutes was round trip.. 🙂 But 45 one way can easily turn into 2 hours in the winter or if a bad accident.. Thanks for stopping by!
That’s a lot of water, Kathleen, and some areas in the USA are experiencing drought conditions. Glad you had an amazing week in South Dakota. Thank you for linking with #weekendcoffeeshare.

Feast or famine! Yes, we can’t wait to return. Thank you for being an amazing host!
That would be a mess and scary, flooding. Good that you can continue remote work. Sounds like you have some nice trips to look forward to.
Yes, I’m grateful I have so much to look forward to.. Thank you for reading!
Wow. That is a lot of water. Goodness. We’ve had the opposite weather here in Washington with record high temps 3 days last weekend.
