Good Morning on this sunny Sunday! I can’t remember a time we had this many sunny, blue sky days in Michigan this time of year! I’m loving it, even though it’s a chilly 27 degrees. Come on in!
This week flew by for me but was very productive, both at work and at home. I think I’m nearing the finish line on some projects for work and made a serious dent in my at home To Do list yesterday. Just a few more things to check off and I’ll feel somewhat accomplished. The next few weeks will involve some serious home improvement projects.
Thursday over lunch I sat in on a webinar titled A Ship’s Journey: Duluth, to the Soo, to the Blue, presented by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District and the Soo Locks Visitor Center Association. It was a presentation on how ocean-going ships make their way from the Atlantic, through the Welland Canal, and the Great Lakes to Duluth and back, navigating their way through several locks. The presentation is now on their YouTube channel along with some others that I missed!
I planned to start my seedlings this weekend and yesterday received an amazing surprise in the mail from my sister! She sent me a variety of seeds, a planting guide and several bags, which I’ll use for harvesting (hopefully!).
She has an amazing green thumb, always has. I’m going to try also starting the seeds I harvested last year from my peppers, to see if I can keep the family of descendants going.
I was especially intrigued by these two seed packets! I grow tomatoes and peppers for Hungarian Lecso, a traditional tomato and pepper stew my folks always canned with their abundant harvest. I didn’t know of Hungarian Heart tomatoes! And remember the black beauty pepper I accidentally grew last year? Here are the seeds for a black beauty tomato! Too funny..
Every now and again Facebook displays an ad that actually interests me – this time it was for Virtual Haunted Campfires by The Haunted Walk! (I know, right? Shut up and take my money!) These are Zoom meetings where various storytellers tell their spooky stories about different haunted locations. I’m planning on catching the next one, this coming Saturday, Don’t Go Into the Woods! Hmm, maybe I’ll watch it on my phone out by the campfire.. Hehehe.
Later today I’ll slice some more apples for the dehydrator. The first batch is done and I still have four large, semi-soft honeycrisp apples that will begin their second life as dried fruit. I dip the slices in lime juice to keep them from browning and they turn out rather tasty!
After this last cup of coffee, I’ll go out and help Bill put the snowmobile trailer back in the corner of the yard. I don’t anticipate we’ll be going out again this year, unfortunately. But we had three very fun event-filled trips to remember. Spring will be here before we know it and we have lots to look forward to this season.
Thanks, as always for stopping by! I look forward to visiting your blogs and seeing what’s going on in your neck of the woods.. Thank you Natalie, for hosting our Weekend Coffee Share!
A hopeful week ahead!
I’m looking forward to spending time outside!
Oh, that presentation sounds really intriguing. I’m also so glad you can get started on your seedlings soon and that your sister surprised you with the package. Dried fruit is so delicious, but I’d never considered making it myself.

It was very cool and interactive! Lots of questions and answers from the audience in the chat. Very informmative. Yes, I don’t even know where to begin with all these seeds! I love to dry apples and strawberries.. It’s also a great way to salvage them if they are getting a bit beyond their expiration..
Hi Kathleen. You’re late this weekend so must be busy enjoying that great sunshine. Okay, you tempted me with all those seeds but I’ve decided not to do any gardening this year. There is just too much going on and last summer was so hot that I spent too much time defending the few squash plants I was trying to salvage.
And that snowmobile. . . in my dreams . . . in my dreams.
Thanks for the visit.
Yes! I seem to be late the game often.. I think I need to start gathering my thoughts on Friday. Totally understand on the gardening. I need some sort of greenhouse solution and will be looking into that. I still need to work on my sled footage. I’ll post it to my YouTube channel when ready. I hope we have a hot summer.
How lovely with all those seeds! I’m about to start planning what to plant too. My husband is building a small greenhouse and some planting boxes, so it’ll be exciting!
Kathleen, Nice surprise from your sister. You’ll be busy gardening and harvesting this summer. Thank you for linking with #WeekendCoffeeShare.

Wow, the dehydrator seems amazing. It’s on my list to buy.
